its getting more physical by the day homie, black kids are dying by the hand of the people that suppose to protect us and they arent getting punished for it, man education/money wont stop thatDifferent times. The fight was physical and in your face then, so the response needed to be.
Now the fight is more mental. They pretend the oppression doesn't exist so asking them to stop it isn't getting us anywhere.
And that's not to say I'm against protest. I went to some of the demonstrations here in cleveland. I'm just saying as you get older you learn where to concentrate your vigor.
common's delivery isn't as colorful on that record, to be fair.Electric Circus was truly ahead of its time. Goes to show how far marketing and good publicity will get you. These two album are very similar in terms of concept, sound and style.
Always found the criticism of EC to be very hive-minded and dismissive. People already had this idea that Com had lost his marbles and that the album was garbage before they even heard it. Theres no reason why it aint heralded at one of the best albums of 2002, but his label delayed it, basically wrote him off and his public image was damaged so it was aborted.
This album will likely get 5/5s and 10s and be on every list at the end of the year. Its a great album, dont get me wrong, but all eyes are on Kendrick right now. He's the chosen one and can do no wrong. Its funny how perspective changes our view on music. Com got punished for trying something like this, Kendrick will be praised to death for it

No form of music has ever changed racism or brought about social justice. But I would have no problem with a pro-black vibe in hip hop.Killer Mike
Lupe
Cyhi
Rapsody
Kendrick
Cole
And a few others are moving hip hop (Back) to be a socio economic voice that hopefully can change the tide of racism and social in justice.
Nah, the fight is socioeconomic. All that shyt that is happening to us is the result of concentrated poverty. I don't agree with @MeachTheMonster in that regard. Just raising your kids is not enough to change how society portrays us. Racial bias is ingrained in everything.its getting more physical by the day homie, black kids are dying by the hand of the people that suppose to protect us and they arent getting punished for it, man education/money wont stop that
that verse gave me a chill bronikka feeling himself too much on Hood Politics
Wonder if any NYC rappers will respond
Critics want to mention that they miss when hip hop was rappin’
Motherfukker if you did, then Killer Mike'd be platinum
Y’all priorities fukked up, put energy in wrong shyt
Hennessy and Crown Vic, my memory been gone since
Don’t ask about no camera back at award shows
No, don’t ask about my bytch, no, don’t ask about my foes
'Less you askin' me about power, yeah, I got a lot of it
I’m the only nikka next to Snoop that can push the button
Had the Coast on standby
“K. Dot, whaddup? I heard they opened up Pandora’s box
I box ‘em all in, by a landslide"
Nah homie we too sensitive, it spill out to the streets
I make the call and get the coast involved then history repeats
But I resolved inside that private hall while sitting down with Jay
He said "it's funny how one verse could fukk up the game"
He brought back "K.Dot" on this shyt
