sources say gold

Gold is great, but Platinum is a million times better. After notching a gold plaquefor selling over 500,000 units of his debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city, Kendrick Lamar got the nod from SoundScan that his critically-acclaimed opus’ second single, “Swimming Pools (Drank),” has been certified platinum for pushing over 1,000,000 units.

I cannot speak on people older than me. But I'm only 25. I have no hate for the younger guys and root for them. They are my age group. Heck, I even want Sean to win and this board hates him for some reason. bytch Don't Kill My Vibe and Money Trees will never be played out. Sing About Me was the best song of 2012. I never said what some of these guys were saying. What they are trying to get at is that, his impact seems manufactured and forced. They are used to people on the street that they interact with confirming critical acclaim. Take Care is not a classic either because it has some questionable tracks. None of these dudes are dropping albums that I can see being hailed classic 10 years from now. It's like they want to be rewarded for being better than these other basic nikkas and a having a "message". This nikka Cole said make room for new legends and then dropped Born Sinner--far from classic. And then FHD--again far from classic but was hailed as 5 out 5 on here. This is not anti-Kendrick, this is anti-settling. We have reached a point where we have lowered the bar....but we don't acknowledge it when Kendrick is involved.
so it comes down to how do you define classic

is a classic something you personally love and is validated by your circle? is it something that you hear "in the streets"? is it something that gets critical acclaim?

many people that talk down on the album are people that wouldnt be out there in the street with people that would even be listening to anything from this generation anyway. they're jaded and have already dismissed anything after their "heyday".

i dont think anything drake has done is classic but if you want to go the impact route or hearing it in the streets, then by definition basically everything he has dropped has been a classic. his latest mixtape/album is already classic status. in fact drake is probably the best rapper to ever do it because he has broken plenty of records by hip hop elite, but i dont think alot of the people claiming GKMC is overrated would be running to say that drake is better than pac, biggie, nas, jay z, etc

and on the new legends part hip hop has always been about boasting about your skills and abilities. MCs have been saying their the best to pick up a mic for the past 30+ years.

i personally dont care if people dont feel the album. the literal only lacking spot on the album to me is the last song with dre and its because of dre. im not going to mark the album down because lackluster talent exists.

the bar hasnt been lowered, the definition has blurred because people (many of whom happen to be older) refuse to believe that a good album can be made in this day and age and look for something to nit pick about to tear it down

The bar has been severely lowered. Kendrick sounds awful on the mic and his supporters ignore that. His so called depth as an artist is laughable compared to artists that REALLY impacted the people.
He will never be felt the way pac, cube, face, nas and an assortment of others have.

Means I heard it being bumped more at various places and have people in real life ask me about it.
None of the singles went plat, while YG has a plat and double plat single.
When numbers dont match,i peep game.
There's a shytload of albums that dont sell well but the singles do well.
Kdot is the only one this doesnt apply to. I wonder why.
His album sales reflect a super star, but all his other numbers dont reflect that. Hmm
Still hasnt done a big tour in his own right, doesnt have alot of likes on facebook (in comparison to other current platinum album artists)

:deadmanny: stopped reading after that

:ehh: I stand corrected then. But honestly man, it doesn't really change the fact that he along with J Cole, Drake, Wale and Big Sean are the faces of the new school.

You're really fighting a losing battle here
I agree that he's amongst the new stars but the media pumps it like him and drake are at the top, when really it's nicki and drake and the rest our under them

Okay. I'll give you that. I didn't find any. But these platinum artists got singles that don't certify at all. And you can find many more artists with platinum songs and 300k units sold or less. Fanbase >>>>> singles
BUT SEE MY POINT IS I DONT THINK HE REALLY SOLD THAT MANY ALBUMS,BECAUSE OF THIS.
Not just that but the fact that he cant do big tours like ,nicki, wayne, drake.
it's a farce,TAHT'S MY POINT

So if you think Inters cope bought a million of his 1.4 million albums, what is the fiscal objective of that? Because since he "can't do big tours", they aren't recouping from merchandise and ticket sales. So what would buying albums accomplish?

Who says they cant do merchandise? And let me rephrase,he cant do big tours in his own right. He does many festivals but he's never done a BIG headlining GKMC tour cause he wouldnt be able to draw those people alone.
But they can put him at a yearly festival and have him around alot of people like that.

The bar has been lowered. Classic albums have always been considered as such by the general public and critics alike. It's not just about the numbers, it is about impact and respect from heads. While Drake may not have a classic album he is undoubtedly an important figure in hip hop. Just being popular was never enough. No one considered what Nelly and Ja did to be classic. People can bump your shyt without thinking you're at the top of the game (people do think Drake is at the top though...there's a difference). Like I said, GKMC will probably go down as a classic album but I think it is because people dropped their standards. Months after the album dropped and I made people go song by song and then I gave a comparison track and people always admitted that the song on GKMC was not the same caliber as the other track. So I was like, if all of these songs from these different albums are comparable and this shyt isn't, then what makes this classic?
