It's kinda like this for me too. Although I DO understand why people love GKMC because I do too but people are doing a lil too much.Your analogy does not work. If MJ played with a bunch of HS kids we would never know how great he was if he decided to not go to the NBA. I'm sorry, but it wasn't just me when that album dropped. It was this thing where I and a lot of people on here who would usually side with people musically were entirely confused as to why that shyt was hyped the way it was. I literally have never been so far off from popular opinion in my life. The type of people I meet that think that shyt is classic are (a) hipster writers on places like pitchfork, (b) people who think it was the deepest thing they ever heard, (c) people who have no context of hip hop history or (d) people who like hip hop with a "message" and have not heard this type of album in a long time ("conscious people").
That's just my experience with 95% of the people who hyped this album. I was on college campuses with my cousin watching people zone out to this shyt like it was something they had never heard before, and we were flabbergasted. It started to feel like this album being a classic was forced, and I bought it only because I was told it was a classic. Even now, the entire industry pushed that "i" track while most thought it was "blah." No matter what he does people act like it is the greatest thing ever. (That is probably the root of the backlash). GKMC will go down as a classic, but it does not feel as organic as others. But I can see how it is relatable. His next album will be hailed as the year's best too regardless of the quality...he's just that guy right now. I'll never get it.
Real shyt. See i'm 35. Not only am i 35,I listen to music 8+ hours a day while i'm working. All the vintage classics,or just shyt i like from before my life on up to current,I LISTEN TO.Your analogy does not work. tbh I don't think mbdtf & gkmc will be topped any time soon. These 2 albums wil lbe hailed as the 2 greatest bodies of work of our generation, and for legitimate reasons
Cot dam bre relax.george clinton is right, kendrick is definitely the only artist of our time with the musical knowledge to become the next Prince
he's being payedCot dam bre relax.
shyts gonna be better than that weed plate Drake shamelessly dropped.

So when people act like GKMC is deep,it';s comical to me. Why because i've heard younger (at the time) rappers spit deeper more believable shyt.
I cant get hyped over GKMC,when 2pac dropped matw at 23. Scarface dropped The diary at 23. etc.
I'm not impressed. I also remember the way real classics impacted the community.
That shyt was undeniable.
I remember AEOM dropping and every car in the school parking lot bumping various songs from it.
I remember going to the strip mall and hearing various songs blaring from cars when Biggie's LAD dropped.
I remember how much you'd hear stillmatic and blueprint when they dropped.
I know when nikkas pretending.
There's is TOO mUCH inconsistent shyt going on from kdot ,for me to believe he's that nikka.
And really popping like that
