I think Kendrick is popular in varying communities and has the talent to match but it's the HYPE dudes attatch to him that make people go
These plants tryna sell Kendrick as the best thing ever since sliced bread that the rap game has never seen before
They're doing too much trying push the man as one of the greatest ever so early in his career and it's off puting. It's like rap needs a Messiah so bad they gotta grab Kendrick and put him on the grand pedestal and set him up for failure. Once he fails to reach these expectations they'll just start to nitpick and shyt on him and move on to the next or say he fell off. You can kinda see it happening now.

albums like gkmc and mbdtf will always be talked about as far as critical acclaim go

and considering the fact that his new songs are even more acclaimed than his last project

Music has evolved. its easier to compare albums from the same decade. Not because its better or worse than the albums from the 90s, but because the music is different. We don't even use the same frequencies in the mixing anymore
