Sound like the Kendrick haters are nervous. In their haste to sound like they're turned off by Kendrick "c00n" statement, they're proving themselves to be dumb. You can't help but look around and see the self hate in the black community, but since it's all the rave to be socially conscious about white vs black crime, it's cool to ignore our very reality. Our women injecting themselves with poison, hair weave is considered normal, black men tattooing their faces chasing a style or emulating another grow man that recite words to a beat, etc......I'm from St. Louis.....the "fight the power" wave here has died down considerably. So at what point will these internet revolutionaries stop chasing the next fade and it's ok to finally get back to a serious question....what about "us"? I'm not into hero worshipping. If Kendrick make dope music, then cool. If he says something I don't agree with in an interview, then cool. But y'all hip-hop fans are funny hanging y'all hats on that one line. I can't imagine cats claiming MLK "Dream" speech wasn't uplifting to blacks because he had that one line about Jews and Gentiles.

Underrated post

Notice how in the "The Blacker The Berry" cover shows a mother breastfeeding two babies
I-by-Kendrick-Lamar.jpg

Now with "i" we have two opposing gang members (blood & crip) coming together,
Could this possibly be the two babies/brothers growing up?
The mother raised them as babies, now they look to the streets as their new mother

Lets go back to Section.80 & GKMC...

"You've ever seen a newborn baby kill a grown man"

"as a kid I killed two adults, I'm too advanced"

"If I told you I killed a nikka at 16, would you believe me?
Or see me to be innocent Kendrick you seen in the street"

Now back to the new song...
"Been feeling this way since I was 16, came to my senses"
"So why did I weep when Trayvon Martin was in the street?
When gang banging make me kill a nikka blacker than me?
Hypocrite!"

He's saying we need to stop killing our own brothers/people/b]
Notice how "I" is the positive while "TBTB" is the opposite.

VFyXYJg.jpg

Looks familiar? Two brothers who want the same thing, just approached differently.
Also we have the rumored initial track list. Notice the track "Both Sides Of The Story"
kendrick-lamar-tracklist.jpg

This may also coincide with 'Untitled' theme of unity & the fruits of life.

The album's narrative (probably fictional or probably not) involves Kendrick (or whoever's the main character) and his relationship to his brother. I say his brother because as you can tell by the artwork they're both sipping milk together from their mother's breast. They grow up together and one becomes a crip, the other a blood (i artwork). At the climax of the story kendrick ends up shooting his brother thus killing him. This song is definitely somewhere in the beginning of the tracklist while narrative wise taking place at the end of the story; remember how GKMC started off at the middle with Sherane and went all over the place? Expect something similar to that. The track 'Both sides of the story' will involve both kendrick and his brothers views as being from different gangs and how they split from each other to gangbanging. I know all of this sounds cliche but I'm sure this isnt the main part of the story but rather a side story going on in line with the bigger picture.
And before someone tries running up on me saying "the tracklist is fake" I'd like to point out that there are several indications from TBTB and 'i' that there's some kind of war atmosphere being portrayed and it falls in line with the leaked tracklist. I could be wrong bout everything and this could be a huge fukking reach but I'm just thinking out loud (obviously could've been a lot clearer about it but idc)

If all of this is real and true, this is dope AF

Still don't like that last line tho :mjpls:

Look man, if you do not understand why in the 21st century, with the most educated generation of African-Americans ever that is just starting to finally comprehend the insidious nature of respectability politics and deflections why many people would take it that way then you are far removed from what has been brewing on college campuses the past 10 years. At no point in my post did I say what he did or did not say. I went out of my way to say I am not evaluating that. I am talking about how it will be perceived, and that it was poorly worded. No one said shyt about Jay Z and Kanye's "Murder to Excellence" because they never put to topics like this next to each other. There's a difference between Jay Z saying, "Too many enemy shots (cops) to be catching friendlies (black people)," and Kendrick's comment which leaves lesser wiggle room. I'm not saying that is what he meant, I said people are bothered by the fact that we live in a climate where statements like his have been used against AA interests for decades. I am one of the people who defended him when he made his billboard statements because I just felt he did not know any better. But I understand how people are going to take it after what he said before. People in 2015 have grown tired of "what about black on black crime" it is what it is. We're not even arguing with each other. You're talking about what he said, I'm talking about how it will be perceived.

But that's the difference breh, I'm not worried about how it's going to be perceived because he knows exactly who he's making the music for and more importantly, art is supposed to be a gateway for you to get your personal feelings out or as therapy. As an artist, you need to worry about that first and foremost and always be emotionally and intellectually honest to yourself and you roll with the consequences, whatever they may be. When artists are worried about what they're saying or how they're saying it, then that leads to dudes being muted or their growth being stunted and I'm not with that. I get what you're saying but I just don't want artists timid or scared to say how they feel or what's on their mind due to how it may be perceived. That's a slippery slope I want no parts of.

That booth is supposed to be like the couch in a psychiatrists office and you vent, you say how you're feeling right or wrong at the time. When jay said it's big pimpin spending cheese, or how he'd never give his heart to a woman, that was his feeling at the time. When so many hip hop artists have said "bytches ain't shyt" that's their mentality and how they felt, regardless of how it painted women in society or the black woman in society, just the same as when female MCs have said "nikkas ain't shyt" Rappers have and should always say how they feel and you can either agree with it or disagree with it but it has to be their truth regardless of what one, two, or a million people will think about it. That's your time to tell the world what's on your mind

Reason 2: How many people out in them streets protesting were criminals (possibly some) but I would say the majority were everyday people like you and me. So how does Kendrick's interpretation apply to them?eh.
Kendrick's interpretation doesn't apply to them, you or myself. The problem is that a lot of you in here believe that he's talking about the average square nikka like us being emotional over Trayvon's/Mike murders. He says "So why did I weep when Trayvon Martin was in the street, when gang-banging made ME kill a nikka last week". He's talking about himself. He's not calling us hypocrites.I don't see how y'all don't see this.

The whole point is that a Black life lost is still a life lost. It shouldn't matter at whose hand they died. The judicial system is still set up to where if a Black person is killed:

1) the murderer walks free (in most cases this occurs when the murderer is non-Black)

2) the murderer serves time, but it's still a light sentence for murder (this often occurs when the murderer is Black)

3) the victim is made out to be the aggressor

You cannot be this fukking stupid

a Gang banger beefing with another gang banger and somebody getting killed, (and they do not get a light sentence when they are caught)
it's not comparable to Trayvon in any fashion

nobody feels sorry for gang members because that's their choice
nobody feels sorry for dope boys when they get robbed and shot, because they chose that life

Trayvon was a civilian, he didn't live trife life, so even a gang member can sympathize with his death

He heavily implied it in GKMC.
I thought yal were talking about something else, I recall all the stuff from GKMC, just was confirming if yal were getting it from somewhere else outside of what he was saying on the album.

this WHOLE THING could even be part of s greater concept to the album and we would have no idea

and I wouldn't be surprised

this is the generational artist of this decade. like Kanye before him he's selling you dreams while CHALLENGING people to feel strongly about the music...I remember listening to ab soul's outro on s80 a few years ago....and in the midst of this next level futuristic jazz that nobody else was incorporating at the time....kdot had that little monologue where he said something that as a 20 year old really spoke to me

"YOUR SON WILL PLAY ME IF RADIO WONT"

and that's when I knew this dude was gonna turn everything on its head eventually.

iwhat's your life about, enlighten me? is you gonna live on your knees or die on your feet?

"I spent 23 years on this earth searching for answers. Till one day I realized I had to come up with my own"

it's that rebellious spirit, that dream that we latch onto. That we can be better and overcome the obstacles in our path. That's what pulls us in and moves us forward. Bars and shyt, yeah those are fun but those don't move people. Dreams are what moves people. Music that challenges you to think and FEEL. You all FEEL something so strongly about this ART positive or negative. Let it be the SPARK

I'm not saying feel sorry for them, but it doesn't nullify the fact that it's still somebody's child, sibling, or relative that got killed.

Not all humans are innocent, gang bangers are not innocent

Trayvon was innocent
