Songs like Kenny Lofton, Lost Ones, Rich nikkaz and '03 Adolescence, as just some examples. The way Cole makes you think is more creative and expressive than the Kendrick would spit it. Where Kendrick would spit the message outright and make you think about it, Cole would rather spit it in context and with perspective. Creates a connection with the listener by being able to place the listener in those situations and letting everyone relate to the issue at hand.

I wouldn't go as far as to say J. Cole makes more thought provoking songs, but he executes them in a better fashion than Kendrick. In Kendrick's earlier works he had some very complex conscious rhymes.
I agree with Kendrick earlier work being very thought provoking. Section 80 was my shyt. I still think Cole is more thought provoking songs, but I can see why you would say Kendrick.

I'm not a huge fan of Kendrick; i don't really follow the guy, but I have a question. Does Kendrick actually do anything for the community? I respect the fact that hes a conscious rapper and that he talks against all types of violence, drug abuse etc.. But has he actually put in work in the community, in any way?

I feel as though if your not doing anything for the community than my I view your opinion/thoughts a hell of a lot less.

I think hes the reason why the Compton school is still open, Also donated a lot for black kids from Cali last year, and he was the only rapper (with macklemore) to top these "charity" lists

dude is actually doing something for his community

But they both result in the black life being lost.

They're both bad bruh.

Maybe you don't understand the term "false equivalency" :boy:. That word basically means to FAKE like two things are equal when they are actually not equal.
I never said that one was good and one was bad, but I am saying that one is bad, and the other is WORSE.
Its bad when a life is lost but it gives the family some solace (even if its only a little) when the person who commits the murder goes to jail.

yes but are most of them thought provoking?

Think about it. Negro spirituals are the products of hardship, and putting it in song. The struggle that the first African-Americans went through was endured through the power of song, and it help keep spirits up. Not allowing the physical torture and abuse break you. Be Free is basically a modern negro spiritual. The lyrics don't need to provoke the thought so much as the execution. The powerful performance provokes thought, moreso than the lyricism.

I felt like people aren't connecting the 1st and third verses.

In the first verse, he talks about how. Systematic racism has caused him to hate himself and turn into a killer. So when it comes to the third verse he asks why does he only care about the racism that caused the death of Trayvon, when that very same racism caused him to kill a black man without even batting an eye.
