Cut this shyt out, you're better than this :beli:

And now this song...

People were actually digging into these records. Whether you mess with them or not, they are all "thought provoking" songs. J. Cole's song was more like a tribute, a cry of pain. That shyt wasn't thought provoking. It was a dope performance, and I'm glad he did it and added that verse in there. But c'mon... the most talked about line on J. Cole's album was the shyt he said about white artists... then he had to say he was "just kidding" right after he said it.

The song is a reflection of himself, a exgangbanger. shyt doesn't represent you because you're not what he used to be, therefore you're not hypocrite

But a minute ago you just said the song WASN'T about a lifestyle. You said it was about BLACK SKIN (unless all black people are banging in your mind). Like I said, you nikkas are goal post shifting to fit what ever narrative matters to you more. With this post, it was people living the "lifestyle". I argue all of that, you will back to "it's about black skin". You are so confused with your loop jumping, even you can't stay on your own point.

You are really just switching it up based on what you're defending at the moment. Is the song about black people or the lifestyle? Your last two posts have been in direct contradiction with each other. Clarify.

I like the song. Lets start there.

I understand the message. It not quite "If we want to be respected, we need to respect ourselves," but its basically that Billboard quote.

If this song is directed at Game--cries for every police shooting, but, is an unrepentant Blood and makes a mockery out of black men he beats up--then, I get it.

I'm sure money grew up seein more black on black death than anything. So, I understand the perspective.

But, here where maturity kicks in; the majority of the ppl upset about the deaths of Mr. Martin (Crawford, Garner, etc [RIP to them all]) aren't scourges on the black community.

And that's why the "we need to respect ourselves first..." dies a quick death.

We already do...
Thank you, and that is why what he said was ridiculous. The freaking tag was #blacklivesmatter started by college black kids for goodness sake.

I posted the performance for a reason
even if thats what ur talkin about nothing is thought provoking about that verse

As pretty much everything he said is self explanatory there was no debate or discussion revolving that verse as its merely a verse voicing out frustration..not something to make us think

Which songs from Cole are you talking about though?

Songs like Kenny Lofton, Lost Ones, Rich nikkaz and '03 Adolescence, as just some examples. The way Cole makes you think is more creative and expressive than the Kendrick would spit it. Where Kendrick would spit the message outright and make you think about it, Cole would rather spit it in context and with perspective. Creates a connection with the listener by being able to place the listener in those situations and letting everyone relate to the issue at hand.

The song is about black skin and it's told from the perspective of a exgangbanger, which happens to be the perspective of the nikka rapping the song.

Its not that hard to grasp b

The album will be about two brothers growing up together but as they turn older they lead their lives in two different paths. Both want the same but are doing it in two different ways. The covers show that and punch kinda confirmed it with this:

This is how I feel... Whether you agree with this dude's feelings you have to commend him from speaking his mind and putting it in the music.

It's a good song, and even though I get his point, don't mean I have to agree with it. That Trayvon line made me go :patrice: though, can't even front.

And which thought provoking songs has J. Cole dropped that had people talking about it on this level?
Cole hasn't dropped any songs that had people talking at this level. I just meant in general

he's right

Pls tell me whats so ground breaking bout this

And I'm in denial
And it don't take no x-ray to see right through my smile
I know, I'd be on the go
And it ain't no drink out there that can numb my soul
No, no

All we want to do is take the chains off
All we want to do is break the chains off
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is take the chains off
All we want to do is break the chains off
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is be free

Can you tell me why every time I step outside
I see my nikkas die,
Ooh, I'm letting you know
That it ain't no gun they make that can kill my soul
Oh, no

All we want to do is take the chains off
All we want to do is take the chains off
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is take the chains off
All we want to do is break the chains off
All we want to do is be free
All we want to do is be free

Are we all alone fighting on our own
Please give me a chance
I don't wanna dance
Something's got me down
I will stand my ground,
Don't just stand around
Don't just stand around

Do you appreciate hymns or negro spirituals?
