Which is still crazy to me, like I literally don’t get it lol..

Kendrick is the only rapper to win a Pulitzer..period, above all of these other legendary rappers and classic rap albums that have defined and shaped the genre, and instead of giving it to TPAB, they give it to the only Kendrick Lamar album that you can say sounds generic, I’m not saying it’s a bad album, but it’s easily his worst imo, and Is the only one of his albums that sounds like just a collection of songs and singles rather than a carefully crafted album like his rest

Not Section 80.
not GKMC
not TPAB

but you give the Pulitzer to DAMN

:gucci:

It usually goes that way. The art isn't respected in real time so they do apology awards after the fact. Same thing happened for him at the grammys when Macklemore won over him.

I also agree with you on DAMN, out of his albums I play it the least because it's the least interesting. You can tell Kendrick decided to dumb it down because he knew most hip hop fans didn't understand TPAB.

It seems like all of our abstract artists eventually dumb it down. Cole has simplified his art a lot also.

This album gonna be left field like to pimp a butterfly and people gonna be mad

:russ:
I edited my original post to expand on it a little bit, but I meant it’s more generic compared to his other projects in the sense that it doesn’t feel expertly crafted like his others, I’m not saying it doesn’t have some great tracks on it because it obviously does like the ones you listed

I get the whole play it backwards concept, but it’s nothing special :yeshrug:
Its a well crafted mainstream album. Something not being a strict concept album or a long narrative driven album with jazz production doesn’t mean it’s not expertly crafted. Thriller isn’t a concept album. It’s an expertly crafted mainstream album.

And despite being a mainstream album it still has a general concept and is well thought out. Personally it’s not his best album but I love it because it’s him having fun. Concepts can limit creativity and sooner or later you’re gonna miss by trying too hard.

So my hope for the new album is that it’s…fun. We’re coming out a pandemic, it’s about to be summer. Give us some dope beats, dope rhymes and great hooks.

I actually disagree. To me MTBDF is a well crafted mainstream album. It sounds big, big features, dope beats, rhymes, hooks, like you said, big appearances behind the boards, big music videos, big documentaries, just big.

DAMN. had almost none of this, it was quite literally songs to put out. The Untitled unmastered drop received more fanfare. If Kendrick wants to just put out a well crafted mainstream album, he has to do more than what he did with DAMN. IMO

Imagine Kendrick doing that, then leaving the grammy’s with a clean sweep. The race wars that would follow on Twitter and the Coli would be unbelievably.

I’m not sure what planet you live on but its DEFINITELY not earth because in no way shape form or fashion did Untitled Unmastered receive more fanfare than Damn.

Damn is Kendrick’s highest selling album and his second most acclaimed of his career. Its literally ONE notch below TPAB in overall acclaim (95% vs 96%) and as said before is the ONLY Rap album to date to win a Pulitzer.

That album was a MONSTER in 2017 and is actually recognized by Billboard as the top selling album of that year. There’s literally been NO rap album as universally acclaimed and successful as Damn has been 5 years ago. Not from Kanye, not from Drake, not from Nas, not from Cole. ANYBODY

Didn’t Kendrick register 30 something unreleased songs last year? Kendrick Lamar Registers 32 New Song Titles With ASCAP

I think one of the songs was called “Driving Down The Darkness”. People were saying that was an actual rock song from back in the day. So people were thinking he really releasing a rock album.

I don’t think it’ll sound like rock per-say. I think it’ll be more in your face like punk rock, with some soft rock songs as well. Possibly more live, stadium type music. Basically like XXX (the song from DAMN), and ironically like XXXTENTACION. He made music that had a rock feel, and energy to it.

I hope Prayer, Somebody, and that guilty conscience track ain’t on it. Those songs are old, and out of the context of the album sounds meh.

Out of the snippets from the past year. I would say Handsome, Out of Pocket, and Therapy Session #9 will be on the album (even though they said the snippets were scrapped off the album). Those tracks sounded (not at all rock) way too polished to not be on an official album. Especially Handsome, that snippet sounded like it was mixed, and radio ready. I bet that song will be a single later down the line. Most the snippets were about mental health, current events, and what’s wrong with society these days. I hope the Poetic Justice skit is on there to. Probably not though.

Very typical of you snipe one exaggerated sentence and go on a tangent:mjlol:

Man I hope the album has zero rock. And those snippets / leaks were underwhelming as fukk. Word was they were just reference tracks for Keem.
