Ehh, if you want to consider it that. Cole hit the mixtape circuit before Kendrick and got his debut out. One that did well because of assists from Missy and Drake and a very girl-friendly song, but that album was a huge letdown for fans. Cole’s name was not a co-sign that was going to get you looks like Drake’s was at the time, trying to act like a coke produced track is doing anywhere near the same as drake giving Kendrick an interlude is a lie.


I do agree on Cole’s push. He had a HUGE push but he was being broadcasted as Jayz first artist to roc nation so of course Hov was going to press the button for him.

But Kendrick was also getting looks around that same time and actually had a deal before Cole. In 2006, Lamar signed an artist development deal with Def Jam Recordings and was featured on two singles by the Game.

Game had him on tour. He started getting major looks in 2009 with Kendrick Lamar ep (shoutout 2dopeboys)

Cole just ended up blowing up first
