Yeah, Roy Ayers and James Brown are the absolute fathers of rap production. Years and years and years pass, different styles of rap come and go, and through it all there are always tracks sampling or reinterpreting these dudes.

I listen to a lot of Ayers - when it hits, it really hits, and when his music misses it's at least interesting. A lot of jazz musicians and critics really didn't respect his whole fusion vibe, but it ended up transcending like a motherfukker.

Syl Johnson's shyt was frequently used and abused back in the days too

Roy's Everybody loves the sunshine was my summer anthem a couple of years ago

man this takes me back, that's my type of music
