*Googles Roy Ayers Mass Hallucination*:dwillhuh:

I'm full fledged Digable Planets stan too.:snoop:

Props for the actual factuals.:myman:

That's that Brooklyn song right. shyt is smooth as silk.

Roy Ayers is a god

album got dudes makin divide and conquer threads with no polls :boss:

Yeah, Roy Ayers and James Brown are the absolute fathers of rap production. Years and years and years pass, different styles of rap come and go, and through it all there are always tracks sampling or reinterpreting these dudes.

I listen to a lot of Ayers - when it hits, it really hits, and when his music misses it's at least interesting. A lot of jazz musicians and critics really didn't respect his whole fusion vibe, but it ended up transcending like a motherfukker.

Kendrick just came through and re-shuffled my top 5 for 2012. Probably the most original, fun, and creative album of the year. Much like Section 80 I start from the first track and ride it out to the end. This isn't an album where you just hit a song here and there that you really like.

I hope his peers were paying attention....this is what a great album sounds like when you take your time and craft your project. While most rappers hit the studio in search of a "hit record" Kendrick is making a whole album that's a "hit record". I have no idea how dude is going to top this, but I know he can do it.

From the lyricism, hooks, production, features, and skits....e verything fits snugly into pocket. The tone and mood of the album isn't one dimensional nor is the story.

I'm not saying everybody has to like this record, but at least tip your hat to the boy for thinking outside of the box and trying to be progressive with this hip hop shyt.

we have to give credit to DR.DRE..... the he knows how to craft albums and maximize the potential of his artist... ex.. infinte to SSLP....

and you can hear the dre influence on GKMC compared to Section 80.... section 80 is good.. but dre's influence on GKMC is not to be overlooked he had alot to do with the cohesivness overall vibe/sound direction of the album

not taking away ANYTHING from KEndikk.. hes an AMAZING ARTIST.. and i stress the ARTIST part....

If you check the "making of GKMC" feature on Complex, you'd realize that Dr Dre was actually hands off. It was Kendrick picking the beats, and direction for his music.

Dr Dre mixed the songs, along w Ali. You already know if Dre had been heavily involved, this album would've had 2 or 3 push backs.

do you know what the responsibilities of a exec producer is?

no other person beside kendrick had more of an influence on GKMC than DRE..

Yeah, let's go ask Destiny Jones what she did to get Exec Producer credit for Stillmatic. :comeon:

Dre's contribution was mixing the album. And probably a stipulation for the album coming out on Aftermath/TDE/Interscope. The rest of the TDE releases will be joint Interscope & TDE

:usure:

The duties of exec producer vary wildly from project to project. Sometimes they bankroll the project; sometimes they attach their name to it in exchange for a % of profit because their mere association with a project can increase sales; sometimes they take a major hand in driving the creative vision of the project.

There's no way for us to know what Dre's role was unless they come out and explicitly say.

Dre mixed it, so it does have his stamp of sounding great, crisp, & cohesive. Kendrick did what he wanted to do on this album direction wise. I'm sure there is always input & suggestons, but the genesis of every single track was broken down in the article.

i feel like this album is so dope i was wondering how he would top it or even follow it. then i started thinking that all he really has to do is continue the story. things get better for him after thattime period so i assume the next album will be more upbeat and celebratory but in the same artistic way he approaches his music. this is like a new illmatic in ways to show cats they dont have to chase hits features and producers. art always wins above gimmicks.
