What a crazy time. Hip Hop was in a weird place and there hadn’t been a universally received “classic” outside of something Kanye was doing in years. TPAB might be the last “classic” in that sense also

Man this was when I had checked out on new music. I was on a message board where one of the producers on the album was hyping it up saying it was a classic. Then started hearing more and more classic rumblings. Checked it out and the shyt blew me away. I played it nonstop for like a month. I remember being on the road for a work install and this white cat who didn't listen to rap was with it. He started out trying to mock it but by the end of our trip was asking the artist's name as he wanted to scoop lol.
