When do you think the NY Senate is gonna recognize Rocky as a Generational Icon?
I don't care about lyricism like that. Personality is far more important to me. Only after you have the personality that I pay attention to lyrics.
as usual, you don't do your homework and talk out your ass. Even if you think I talk shyt about Kendrick, I at least do my homework on dude.
Your order is wrong. Let me fix it for you.
fixed.
He signed the deal, then released the tape. In fact, the first time I heard of Rocky was: "there's this random guy called Rocky who has just signed 3 mil deal, and he has a song called Purple Swag and Peso." This was a week before Live.Love.ASAP dropped. No Rocky fans are pretending like he was unsigned during LiveLoveASAP's run (unlike Kendrick fans who pretend that Kendrick wasn't signed to Interscope prior to and during Section 80).
Rocky is a Youtube/Tumblr star that got on because the average person who came across his music online genuinely fukked with his music. Music spoke for itself.

Kendrick was on Youtube for years and no one gave a fukk till Dre stepped in. Different scenario.
If you don't care about lyricism why do you bother making threads about Kendrick and J.Cole who obviously value lyrics over swag, clothes, and trying be cool...
They will never truly appeal to rap fans like you who value style over substance.
I still wouldnt dedicate whole threads to that tho. whining about rappers being overhyped is as annoying as rappers getting hype for no reasonOutselling Rocky? no. I could care less about that. Higher critical acclaim? yes. I think the critical acclaim is forced and fake. It doesn't have to be Kendrick. I saw the same thing happen with Kanye and it used to irritate the shyt out of me.
That's like 3 blogs. and none of them are major. Even Vibe has OD listed as their 26th favorite mixtape of that year.
I'm telling you: your average hip hop fan had no idea who the fukk Kendrick was until Dre hopped on. 2010 was the year of Friday Night Lights and Kush and OJ. I remember people talking about those mixtapes. Hence why they're 7th and 1st on the Vibe list. No one was talking about Kendrick like that. We can't pretend anymore.
You a fukking retard breh /thread"Lyricism" is the new "mediocre."
My favorite rappers of all time are Nas, Jay-Z and Ghostface. I know great lyrics when I hear em, and Kendrick and J Cole aint got em. Not even close.
That's my issue: I'm listening to these no-personality-having no-lyrics-having guys and people are pretending they're deep. It confuses the shyt out of me.
I'm thinking:
There are cats like Ka that I don't fukk with but @Big Mel put me onto and I say: "OK. not my type of personality but I see some sort of pen game." From what I saw, Ka got much better rhymes than Cole and Kendrick but y'all sleep on Ka then tell me "I'm all about substance and lyrics."
I still wouldnt dedicate whole threads to that tho. whining about rappers being overhyped is as annoying as rappers getting hype for no reason
I dont get the appeal of young thug and RHQ. But instead of making threads about it i'd rather big up albums like Blowout Comb and Stress: The Extinction Agenda. shyt REAL heads get down to.
The average Hip Hop fan is largely unaware of the majority of the most talented artists that are starting to make a name for themselves before they breakthrough commercially. What's your point? I thought your point was that he's a manufactured artist and doesn't have a history of making music and grinding before the label put him on.
@SirBiatch
- No cosign from any legends
- Dated Iggy Azeala
- First mixtape blows up overnight
- Then signed to $3mill deal
- Biggest single has the top rappers
- Megastar dubstep DJ on the single
- Global Pop superstar in Fashion Killa video
rides better? HELL NO.
More interesting concepts? That's debatable and it depends on what you define as "concepts."
Musically... Live.Love.ASAP shyts on any hip hop album I've heard in like 10 years when it comes to genre-mixing, coast-mixing and overall eclecticism (while making an album full of bangers).
Topically? ehh..... I guess I could give that to Kendrick. Both rappers have stale topics.
I don't care about lyricism like that. Personality is far more important to me. Only after you have the personality that I pay attention to lyrics. And lyrically, I think Rocky and Kendrick are about equal. Neither of them say mindblowing shyt.
we'll agree to disagree then since you are a k. dot hater
I like both so more dope music for me
nikka shut your dumbass up. Are you trolling or what? Trying to get that WOAT tittle. That's you. And frankly, you're probably only saying this because I'm criticizing an artist you like.
The point of message boards is to congratulate, criticize and discuss music in general. I don't understand people who are like: 'don't criticize.'
No, that was never my point. He clearly was releasing music before label help. He's been signed to Top Dawg for a decade or some shyt.
I'm saying that Dre is the guy that plucked him out of obscurity. Which is almost the same thing as having no music, but not quite.
Essentially, Kendrick wasn't special until Dre showed up. Which is hilarious to me because people pretend like Kendrick is so damn special and innately gifted. And if you don't see it, you're an idiot, don't like Blackness, etc.
Meanwhile, Rocky was just special. No major rapper had to tell you "yo check out Rocky. He the new NY". He blew because something about him was innately alluring.
so was asap, before you quote me with 5 paragraphs it's true. You can say what you want or deny it but he was signed before he announced it and had major label help aka an industry plant.
