This is before HiiPower and the release of Section 80. Dre (one of the most visible figures in hip hop history) shows up out of nowhere to cosign Kendrick, but Kendrick's not signed to Interscope nor being pushed secretly by them, right?

then MTV says that Kendrick has signed to Interscope in March 2012, ending his run as an independent artist.

King Koonta is the definition of manufactured hype. Show me a video with Jay-Z/Puffy etc coming out to support ASAP Rocky before Purple Swag and LiveLoveASAP. Then I'll shut the fukk up.

Otherwise, I don't wanna hear the words "Rocky a plant" coming out the mouths of a Kendrick stan ever.

In fact, Rocky/Yams are the definition of young cats who said "fukk an industry handout, we're gonna make undeniably unique shyt and create our own buzz. We'll let the music speak for itself." And instead of championing them, most of y'all hated.

Idk he may have got a strong push but I remember back in 2010 is was fukking this girl from LA and her and all her homegirls was like "omg you don't know who Kendrick is....he's next" they were just regular California girls and they supported him back then. Maybe the heavyweights just latched on to him because he showed promise.

The Kendrick Lamar EP dropped in 2009, this is when I first heard of dude. So unless there's evidence of him being signed to Interscope in 2009 I don't see how he's a 'plant'. I'll agree that he was repackaged in 2011 and the perception was that he was fresh off the streets, but if you didn't know about him prior to 2011, then that's just your bad.

I didn't know who he was until GKMC camed out when Lupe my favorite arist, was giving him props on Twitter and telling us to support it and he had next.

So I gave it a listen and came across bytch Don't Kill My Vibe shyt was dope so I listen to other songs. Money Trees and Song About Me had me

An industry plant, such as LMFAO or say the BackStreetBoys, is not the same as an astro turfed marketing campaign. This is similar to 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa in the sense they were on, fell off, then were rebooted and given a 'fresh' start. Wiz was signed before Kush and Orange Juice but it was never mentioned. Obviously 2 Chainz had some help before the mixtapes took off.

LMFAO the main dood is son to Motown Records founder Barry Gordy. That group was just created out of thin air. Kendrick, Wiz Khalifa, and 2 Chainz were not, they all have records of rapping and touring long before being signed. However there was this astro turf marketing campaign (opposite of grass roots movement btw) that went into getting them to the masses.

For example...Kendrick was at this show right in the heart of downtown in an old ass warehouse performing / hanging out prior to this time frame you are throwing out. I know because I stood right next to him in their "VIP" section (lol) since at the time he was known but had not yet blown up.



Everyone was way more interested to see Dom Kennedy than Kendrick. Myself included. Most LA hip hop heads knew of who he was because he was all over mixtapes and again prior to 2011 he had put out Overly Dedicated. Most people who just heard about Kendrick after he blew up never got a chance to listen to what most people would consider his best project, even to date.
