No i'm not confusing it. People put their people on. Thats always been that way. People look out for people they know. For every 5 artist that got signed back then 1 was someone who knew someone.

kendricks a plant. He went from weed carrier making throwaway songs to this "great mixtape" to king kendrick. Drake and J.Cole were at the top of the game with albums but they were supposed to be neck and neck with a dude a mixtape?

Interscope marketed MC Brains and told yall he was on Big and Nas level and you guys drunk the kool-aid

This is before HiiPower and the release of Section 80. Dre (one of the most visible figures in hip hop history) shows up out of nowhere to cosign Kendrick, but Kendrick's not signed to Interscope nor being pushed secretly by them, right? :usure:

Then more torch-passing and hype shortly after Section80 release

then MTV says that Kendrick has signed to Interscope in March 2012, ending his run as an independent artist. :comeon:

King Koonta is the definition of manufactured hype. Show me a video with Jay-Z/Puffy etc coming out to support ASAP Rocky before Purple Swag and LiveLoveASAP. Then I'll shut the fukk up.

Otherwise, I don't wanna hear the words "Rocky a plant" coming out the mouths of a Kendrick stan ever.

In fact, Rocky/Yams are the definition of young cats who said "fukk an industry handout, we're gonna make undeniably unique shyt and create our own buzz. We'll let the music speak for itself." And instead of championing them, most of y'all hated.

Such is the way of the world.

Breh this thread is ridiculous because Kendrick's comeup is one of the most organic in recent memory if you followed and watched it. Kendrick blew up the blogs with OD and even had the block jumping before that. He was already hailed by fans as a "rap savior" by the time S80 came out. I don't know if you frequented the internet around that time but that was the tide. HiiiPower and S80 was not his first exposure to a broad audience :mjlol: Bloggers were literally foaming at their mouths naming OD as the #1 mixtape in their year-end mixtape lists. "Ignorance Is Bliss" was actually the first song Dre ever heard from Kendrick that made him want to fukk with him initially. Add the fact that he's from Compton and its not a reach Dre would co-sign him so early.

ASAP on the other hand, came completely out of the blue with no prior catalog before LiveLoveASAP and Peso. So its not exactly scandalous for people to question his comeup.

I'm an ASAP fan but your constant putting down of his peers who are somehow his direct opposition is getting borderline maniacal :comeon:

Rocky is the biggest plant in the rap game he had no buzz in nyc on the underground scene before he became mainstream

And like I said before, I absolutely love that. It shows the power of his music. He didn't need some legendary cosign or radio play. He released a track on the net and it went viral. Maybe we can talk about a label supporting the viral hit. but at least Rocky isn't dikkriding some previous rapper for success.

Unlike your boys Kendrick, Cole and Drake.

Where The Grass Is Blue
I don't see how Interscope keeping it on the low that Kendrick was signed prior to Section 80 makes him a plant. Kendrick was doing music with Game and BWS and that's how I found out about him. It's not like he literally came from nowhere dude just changed his name and got on his grind until he got a deal. Interscope just played the whole grassroot thing by withholding the announcement of him being signed but Kendrick has been doing his thing for a minute before Dre even came into the picture

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Its not really being an industry plant because Kendrick was doing his thing with Jay Rock, and building his rep for being nice, before 2011. A plant to me is nikkas who don't have any props in the streets, and get signed off of knowing someone. They didn't prove their ranking over the years, and pay dues. Its nothing new, rappers been talking about these nikkas.

Kendrick ain't no industry plant. The label just did that because that was the era of being independent was cool since a lot of people were hating major labels because of 360 deals. It was just going along with the tide, and making sure the money keeps coming in. They do this all the time, look at each era, and you will see this.

you can't change the game in the 9th inning breh

a industry plant IS a person PLANTED by the INDUSTRY to appear grassroots and unsigned... when really he's being paid and pushed by a label in secret

somebody getting signed cause jay-z is his brother is just a nikka who got a hook up
