I gotta respect Pop and RC, they saying fukk that LA super team nonsense :hubie:
Well let’s consider something.
Suppose the Spurs don’t trade Kawhi.
And the Lakers land Paul George and Lebron. And they have Ingram.

That’s a playoff team, in my view.
Not a title contender. But a solid playoff team. So it’s not like LA’s future hinges on Kawhi.

If Leonard chooses them next summer and the Lakers can fit him in (because they would have to fill out the roster in 2018 and you never know what commitments they’ll make)...well then great for LA. They will have been patient and it paid off.

But if you’re the Spurs, hell, why not make a conference rival play the long game?

I think the surprising thing about this situation is how few rumors we are seeing from other destinations like Boston or Philadelphia.

You would think Boston could offer the best deal of any team in the league. But they’re also in the best position to simply stand pat because they’re already so good.

I think Lebron is the driving force here though.
If the Spurs can’t get a solid offer from an east coast team, my guess is they would rather hang on to Kawhi. That would force Lebron to make a tough decision to go to LA and play for a year where they would almost certainly not be a championship threat. And if he doesn’t choose LA without Kawhi and goes to Houston or another team...then it almost doesn’t matter that Kawhi signs with the Lakers next summer because that team won’t upend the Warriors or Rockets anyway.
Boston doesn't make sense because of the salaries involved unless San Antonio was taking Hayward back. Even if it was Jaylen Brown, Rozier and picks, Boston would be staring down max contracts for Kyrie and Kawhi in 2019. Too big of a risk.

Philly probably isn't gonna trade Ben Simmons, so what else do they have to offer?

If the Spurs are playing the long game, they need to start from scratch and get some youth on that roster.

There is some youth, though I agree with you.
But I don’t think the Spurs are willing to significantly improve a conference rival to do it.

You could make the most logical argument for a trade of stars between the Red Sox and Yankees but you know it’ll never happen.

If Kawhi goes to Boston it’s a chance Bron says fukk it and stays in Cleveland since LA won’t have him . Boston probably praying that nikka goes to the West:mjlol:

I fukk with the rationale behind it, but again, the main concern in this scenario is you still lose Kawhi to a conference rival, but get nothing in return.

Ain’t like SA is gonna look MORE appealing to prospective FA’s after losing the face a’ the franchise.

those teams would never do the trade unless Kawhi made a long term commitment
Then I would ring up two next worst destinations: Charlotte and Memphis.

Mitch and Chris Wallace are always down to do some dumb shyt :russ:

Because you have 2019 and beyond tickets to sell. Every time a star player demands out you always get the spiteful takes from the fans and that's difference between a fan and a multi million dollar organization.

"Let's hold onto him and let him walk for nothing" is going to look dope putting up 0 pts ppg and leading a rebuild or you take all you can get which is going to be Ingram and change and have a future you can sell to the fans. No team has let their star player leave for nothing that could avoid it and no team ever well.

And a Kawhi trade with LA is happening btw.

Yeah that’s a good point too.
There are no easy answers here.
