Problem is these type of appointments further press concerns of voter disenfranchisement and often leads to more suppressed votes long term.

That said, framing this appointments as abortion or bust isn't helpful and allows things like citizen s united or justices beholden to corporate or other dark money interests to further erode American instutions at the expense of the populace.

The Dems are fighting two different ideologies at the same time.

Let's not get into recollections here when Ford doesn't recall some important date/times/locations. That's the problem with decades old allegations; people aren't going to remember critical aspects needed to prove guilt or innocence. If they are trying to pivot from Kavanaugh being a sexual predator to being a general scumbag they had a slam dunk with his finances and obvious gambling problems. Him being taken to task for being a young drunk smacks of desperation after the main courses (the sexual assault allegations) aren't turning out so well. If they really wanted to sink his battleship they should just have him testify over and over as that is what has turned most people off; his temperament. Not the allegations, not him being a college drunk, his temperament under pressure. That is his weakness.

You're missing the point. By not being straightforward with his drinking and whether he ever got blackout drunk, he is indirectly denying the possibility of being in position to commit sexual assualt, with respect to Ford's claims, and keeping his recollection out of question.
