Wolves were really good without KAT last year. They were missing a secondary scorer who could really get his own offense and a pure shooter. They bring everyone back other than Kyle Anderson who really helped as essentially a backup PG but who’s absolute refusal and inability to take or hit 3s killed the offense. Now theyve added Donte to basically take those 20 Slo Mo minutes plus a few more, will be free to give Naz more minutes, and have Randle to provide some scoring/passing/toughness. Can easily see them being slightly better even if theyre different.

Randle/Gobert fit aint perfect but if Randle could power an above average offense next to Robinson and IH I fail to see why the same cant happen in MN with Conley shooting flames and Ant being a really good catch and shoot guy. Not saying theyll be amazing but they can still be solid to above average with that starting group

So a still young team is getting one year rental of Randle and whatever years DiVincenzo has left on his contract. Like Donte is good, but I need to remind folks that Bucks won their championship without his services, when he was injured. He's not a must have player that you would trade your star player for.

Timberwolves have just gone one tier below the SGA's Thunder, Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks.

It does save them from 2nd apron hell in the future where they would have to lose Naz and NAW next summer and be unable to sign any free agent for more than the minimum because of the 2nd apron restrictions. They’re still the 2nd most expensive roster in the league this year and apparently had multiple KAT offers for picks and salary cap relief. They wanted to get off KATs huge contract to allow them to continue to build a team around Ant that wasnt totally reliant on KAT while remaining competitive.

They are afraid to admit they made a mistake by overpaying for gobert when trade happened. So they decided to trade other guy. A foolish stubbornness.

Gobert has to get benched at various moments in NBA playoff games, it was certain in Jazz days and same happened with the Wolves.


The way Wemby erased Gobert's legacy at the Olympics was something truly remarkable: averaged more than twice the more rebounds, scored 5 times more, efficiency almost 3 times better, etc.

If the second apron never existed KAT would be on the team it was a salary trade. The Wolves had their most successful run in 20 years.

Yea its a 2nd apron trade but not to save the owner money as you claimed. Its a 2nd apron trade to avoid all of the restrictions that come from being in the 2nd apron in terms of building a team. If the only penalty was just paying the tax they wouldve done so for at least another year or two, but its not. Since the new CBA Wolves fans have always known that they wouldnt be able to keep KAT, Gobert and Naz after this year. And in moving Kat they now get a chance to keep Naz and other important players and possibly sign other FAs in the future. So yea, your post was uninformed because you approached it from an ‘owners being cheap’ angle instead of what it actually was which is ‘trying to build a team’ angle.
