Nah...

Fed jobs pay below the private sector, soon as those demands for higher wages get loud enough and jobs get cut from the budget or the operation gets outsourced to a contractor it won't be all fun and games. Happened to a couple people I knew, I left those jobs before it happened to me.

Contracted positions with the feds allow degree qualification flexibility as is.
Stop lowering the bar as costs rise.

Disagree. I work in IT, and I literally doubled my salary working for the government. (I do the exact same job, except maybe with less responsibility). Plus it's a union job with a pension.

In my private sector job I was an at-will employee that would be fired if I breathed the word "union".

I remember people being up in arms when DJT wanted to replace certain degree requirements and replace it with a more experience heavy lean. Is there any difference from what Kamala is proposing here?

she's not an idiot. people with vocational training or apprenticeships can be just as qualified.
At some entry level positions yes. But you need real experience for higher level positions. There are several of us in this thread who have experience with this and said a degree is not required for many jobs. But yall won't listen.

The jobs in which a degree is required tend to be professional positions. Yall want a community college grad to do your tax audit?

She's literally changing nothing but yall are eating it up. We are fukked for the next 4 years no matter what. Both candidates are terrible. I'd be happy just giving Obama 4 more years. Wish Michelle would have thrown her hat in.

Get rid of degree requirements while making college more affordable and marketing that to Black folk.

:snoop:
I don't have a 4 year degree.
The career I have didn't require it.

But if I did have one, it would have made getting to my current title easier, and I could have started with a higher salary.

Degrees are not useless to jobs that don't require them, but you know that lol.

This will actually make it harder to get a federal job. It'll make nepotism and favoritism easier for hiring managers. Not to mention political appointees will be able to fill jobs with their people with little justification. Anyone who's applying for federal jobs now see a trend of internal postings that exclude a lot of applicants.

Also, this is my issue with Harris. She'll present existing ideas like they are new. This is a 2020 article on the subject.

Article: Degree requirements are on the way out for federal jobs

on the other hand

He's also trying to move most of the federal bases out of DC and put them throughout the US.

The move works if done right, but this is Trump we talking about and what race works most of those sectors in the DMV? Black folks.

This is a great idea and stands to benefit black people significantly, I don't see how y'all are against this. On the job learning trumps a formal education (with no experience) so hard too. I think it's better to get people into their field of interest and hands-on sooner, than it is to have them go through 4 years of hoops with no real work to supplement their education (chances are they'll still need extensive training just to get the basic and intermediate aspects of their respective job down).

*It's better for certain fields I should've said.
Real talk and respectfully, it sounds good in theory but that is not how the game is played. The whole college degree requirement in the private sector and federal government was to limit job applicants for each vacancy. People are correct that there are a lot of jobs requiring a degree when it's not needed. The only black people this will help are those already on the inside who are putting their people on which is few. People are ignoring a lot of high-level federal jobs are politically appointed. Dropping the degree requirement will allow them to fill more jobs with own. That's why people are disagreeing with it. Again, sounds good in theory but that is not how the game is played. :francis:
