I feel that that scene is the one that will be remembered. I hope not. I know it was the 60s, but Marty I do agree he wanted to get something done. But people are going to see him as an adversary throughout the movie.

And that's fine but the movie never claimed to be 100% truth did it? There's always going to be dramatic interpretation in a movie and quite frankly if people are too lazy to pick up a book on LBJ and do some research that's on them. If we are relying on movies to educate us then we've already lost

Very true, very true. But I want Selma to win best picture on its own merits, not a controversy about truth mid february. I wish the American public was smarter.

If it wins it would be on its on merits. Movie just got its wide release yesterday let the numbers come in and see how the box office does. It all plays a part in the campaign. And it also matters what people are doing behind the scenes. All the politicking

How does this compare to Spike Lee's Malcolm X

is this finally the MLK film we've all been waiting for?

It's not the same type of movie. Malcolm X is specifically about him and his life. Selma isn't just about MLK but more specifically about the events leading up to the voting rights act of 65. He's clearly the main character but it's not a full scope of his life. It's just as powerful though

Very, very solid movie. About the best historical drama that I've seen to be honest.

Well acted, well shot, compelling and gripping, there's not really much more to say about it :yeshrug:

Ehhhhhhh, I'm not sure I buy this argument for a film like this.

How one views Johnson's action/inaction is up for debate and fine for dramatic interpretation because different people from different walks of life with different goals will see things differently. Fabricating entire plot points, if they did, that could actually harm the legacy of a very real person is something entirely different.

I feel that but I'm just not one who feels like a movie should define a legacy for someone. That's what books are for

Very well done but to criticize the movie on those issues is a little petty imo ... they did a good job of giving us the meat and potatoes of that movement in a 2hr film. Folks just find a way to criticize huh lol smh
