I don't think that's the movie though. It's not really a king biopic as much as its a movie about Selma and Bloody Sunday so while it would've been cool to see that, that's a different movie. Everything that happens in that movie had to do with Selma and the methods taken to get legislation passed so Malcolm's importance was the one scene he did

Your right I just feel like they should've at least MENTIONED that King and Malcolm had met that one time. It would've made him mentioning his death in that scene more impactful than it was

That's true. I think she either relied on the audience to know the story or relied on them to feel like coretta's words were enough to persuade him

Just got back from it..excellent film. I like how they didn't go out the way to introduce a lot of the people..assuming you should know them.

The part when they shut off the lights literally had me :mjcry: :damn:also the opening and the white lady at the end too. So much I didn't know I have to step my book reading game up. The theater was crazy packed also.

was my only issue with it as well.

Still a powerful movie. those 1st 10-15 mins...:whew:

I've been wondering for a while if a tv series about the civil rights movement would make it on like HBO or Starz. Done similar to how Boardwalk Empire was. Gives them more time to talk about more people involved.

you can prolly find the 14 hour PBS series online if interested

LBJ looks so bad in this movie.

I don't think he looks "bad" I think he looks like a politician trying to juggle. I never once felt that he didn't believe in the cause but I did believe that the realities of the office are things that MLK didn't get nor should he have had to get; it wasn't important to him and it shouldn't have been. But for LBJ it had to be. Obviously the real life account is different but for me, I always believed he wanted to do something and firmly believed in getting it done. Him calling Hoover was probably the worst thing about him in the movie

Completely agree. Those defending Johnson are doing so without cause imo. I never once felt that he was the "villain" or "heavy" in the film.

That said, if lbj never did tell Hoover to send his wife those tapes, that's a pretty foul scene to put in the film.

I feel that that scene is the one that will be remembered. I hope not. I know it was the 60s, but Marty I do agree he wanted to get something done. But people are going to see him as an adversary throughout the movie.

His supporters say he didn't. And there are tapes of him encouraging king to march in Selma. So that's the one thing where I say :whoa: but other than that he wasn't the bad guy. He was the guy trying to move legislation that is tough to move. People have such a simple view of American politics and the office of the president and believe he can do anything he wants but that's not how it works. Lincoln and this movie are perfect illustrations of those facts
