Thats true too, it was crazy how few theaters this movied opened at and how I had know idea it was even out until my girl told me.. and to make it worse its getting great reviews, but at the same time we have to support our movies, we cant expect white people to care about us if we dont..

It's not out in wide release until this week breh. They did what a lot of award movies are doing: release them in limited release so that the voters can see them if they aren't getting screeners and then once it goes wide, everyone can see it. Oscar voting opened last Monday and the movie hit theaters like 13 theaters on the 25th and it'll be everywhere on the 9th

i have a free screening monday for inherent vice.

but i hate monday screenings.. i'm usually too tired after work and you have to wait for an hour to guarantee your seat and all that

my dad wants to see it too.. so i may wait and have him pay :win:

I thought this was a great movie. Really fit the mood that we are currently in. No need for demonstrations if we don't have any endgame goals to be met.

That bridge scene was kind of hard to watch. :sadbron:

With all the negative attention we gave Exodus for being #inherently, I hope we show up to support this on it's wide release.

How was Oyelowo's performance in this? Worth seeing off that alone?

Yes! He was phenomenal! He didn't sound British at all. He became MLK completely. Truly amazing.

This man, who played Cager Lee in the film, earned my vote for Best Supporting Actor of the year.......in one scene.

Incredible.

I totally agree. I actually leaned over to my husband and said "that's really good acting"

My review:

This movie was incredible. It captured one signicant moment in time, and encapsulated the inner and external struggle within the movement and the man who became the face of the movement. It wasn't preachy or over sentimental. It was visceral and felt honest. I'm not sure how authentic those LBJ convos were but I don't think they were implausible. The bridge scene was amazing but so were the more quiet moments before and after the confrontation. I loved how they showed how tiring this work was/is on everyone involved. And the modern day parallels to today's issues didn't need to be stated. They were just there. I left this movie inspired. Duvernay, Webb, Oyeloeo, and Ejogo deserve many nominations and awards.

Definetly a 5 out of 5 for me.

im getting worried about this films oscar chances. baftas didnt nominate the film or oyelowo for lead acor and its missed out on pga and wga noms. looks like duvarnay wont even get a directors credit. smh. i dont think the people handling this film have worked it well, seems like a lot of people are missing it.

They sent out screeners late or in some cases not at all. The Academy got them and so did the globes but the SGA didn't and the PGA didn't, at least that's according to deadline and the hollywood reporter. I'm not sure what happened with BAFTA
