Creep.
Still going back and forth on whether I should go see this
So? I should automatically feel different because you are white and think Idris shoud be bond? Its not even a race thing but a more of a story continuity/being a fan of the character. I've been a fan of Ian Flemings books and the mythos around the character is set around an orphan of french/scottish background who turns into this super agent. Why even tamper with that just to incorporate Idris?.
Why not introduce him into the same world as a Agent but not necessarily "James Bond". Considering M16 is fond of recruiting orphans why not have him as a similar agent to 007 who might have come up the youth ranks with Bond in the training and has been on several different missions. Leaves the door much more open to having two agents liasing in one movie on some action piff
There aren't french and scottish black people? Is that impossible? So? I should automatically feel different because you are white and think Idris shoud be bond? It's good. Some of the cinematography is absolutely beautiful. All the shots they did in china were status.Still going back and forth on whether I should go see this
Is it really that serious though? Does his being Scottish and/or French have much relevance to the character as we know it in the films?
Not really.
because dude, you know how racist it would be to say "Nah b, you can't be james bond, but you can be this other random super agent that is going to act exactly like James Bond.. We gon name the movie "Black Super Agent""Not to you obviously because you didn't read the books, but to me as a FAN its easier and requires less suspension of disbelief when continuity stays. Of course yall could argue Monnypenny being black in the new movie while being white in the books but she's a secondary character. The "James Bond" name is attached to a idea of a character, don't buy into this hollywood hype of having to revamp stories and characters for the sake of a buck. Again what is so bad about Idris being in the same setting/world as Bond as a standalone agent, with a different story and different agenda than Bond? Why does he need to be James Bond?

Sure, i am confident that there are millions of French/Scottish mixed kids running around in England. The point is not all of them are "James Bond". And why do we want Idris to be "James Bond"? So he can break into a traditionally white role and show the man that "Hey, we here now!!!" To show that he can be suave and intellectual as other bonds? The dude is a incredible actor, no one is doubting that, by why change what i've grown up to know/read/watch as "James Bond" now. Why bother with it? You guys are arguing for change but im arguing to keep that nostalgia.
He doesn't need to be James Bond. The people in charge of the films might just feel he can portray the character well on screen. Whether that's true or not, I don't really have an opinion.
Being hung up on his skin tone is more than petty (and it is something trivial to care about).
Maybe that is some peoples motivation. But for me, I'd just like to see a Black James Bond. I think it would be cool and I think Idris Elba could do a great job at it. fukk, it would be awesome to see Denzel play james bond. There aren't french and scottish black people? Is that impossible?

Why change it at all?

The movie HAS to be James Bond. We're talking about 007 here. changing his skin color changes nothing about the jamesbond character or the mythos.
Because the character's race has never been relevant to what makes him who he is. At least on film. What does that mean? The best actor should get the job - whatever his skin looks like.
Maybe that is some peoples motivation. But for me, I'd just like to see a Black James Bond. I think it would be cool and I think Idris Elba could do a great job at it. ****, it would be awesome to see Denzel play james bond.
Changing James Bond's skin color does NOT change everything I've grown up to know from James Bond. It's just skin color! It's really not a big deal. Every actor who has the acting prowess to be a good james bond should be considered for the role.
It's just my personal opinion that I'd love to see a black actor be James Bond.
You haven't actually "validated your own" case other than stressing repeatedly that "traditionally white roles should remain as they are" basically. That and wishing film studios would pander to a small segment of society irrationally hung up on a non-issue.
