Wait, Singleton got nominated for Boyz in the Hood? I love that film but it wasn't worthy of an Oscar nod.

Lee Daniels is an exploitative director who mostly makes misery porn for white people.

Everyone on the Coli seems to hate it, but I thought the Butler was solid :manny: Never seen Precious and I have no desire to

If he doesn't getting it'll look even worse than that time Denzel got fukked over for Malcolm X.

It's too early to say this...and whatever happens, 2013 might go down as an all-time year for lead male performances.

Yes, not only was he the 1st, but still the youngest that ever got nominated. But it was well deserved, because Boyz in the Hood was a timeless classic that jump started a lot of those actors careers. It was also a game changer, because before then, there was never a film about the "hood" ever really made and it was and still is the most HONEST depiction.

I agree with Lee Daniels, yet I got a strange feeling he's going to get nominated again with "The Butler" which to me is the more overrated film of 2013.

:russ:

dude is like I am calling you patsy tonight. :shaq:

her::whoa:
:russ:I think McQueen :troll: the hell out of him knowing about his love for black women. I don't know if you've seen Shame but
I don' think its any coincidence that as much fucking as Fassbender does in the movie, the ONE chick he can't get it up for is the black chick whom he happened to be dating in real life. and I'm sure when they were casting for Epps' part, McQueen was :myman:"I know exactly who would work for this part"

I agree, before this film, I thought for sure Michael B. Jordan or Hugh Jackman were locks for the best actor nod, but I not even sure anymore, especially with a lot of other films coming out. Someone is going to get snubbed.

I've seen most of the films that are supposed to have the best performances in them and Ejiofor has by far been the best performance. Whittaker, Hanks, and Jordan deserve nominations also but none of their performances touch what Ejiofor did.

I agree with Ejiofar being the best I've seen to date...but I haven't seen Dallas Buyers Club, All Is Lost or Wolf of Wall Street yet.

The Butler was cool for what it was in spite the title being misleading to what the film was actually about, but the thing I didn't like of its left-leaning agenda. It didn't give a real honest portrayal of history back then, but a left-leaning one right now to the blatant pro-Obama shyt by the end of the film.

The Butler was exceptionally mediocre, and was damn near complete fiction despite treading on the premise of being based on the man's real life

oh, it was a liberal's wet dream no doubt. especially with the JFK and Obama parts. But I thought the central story, the relationship between the Butler and his son was done extremely well as far as showing the conflict between the civil rights generation and the Jim Crow generation. And I don't think it was the sellout, Uncle Tom film that a lot of people painted it as

I like Singelton as a director a LOT more than other people and I understand how important of a film Boyz in the Hood was but I just don't think it deserved an Oscar nod.

I don't think it's a sell out uncle tom film either, but it'd definitely over sanitized and safe. It's up there with The Help, it's an inspirational negro movie that white folks can watch without anything hitting too close to home for them.

let's give it some credit though, the Freedom Rider scenes and early plantation scenes were extremely raw and separated it from softer stuff like The Help or Remember the Titans. Where I was most disappointed and where I thought it pandered mostly to the sensibilities of a white audience was its depiction of the Panthers. They glossed over the complexities and good of the organization and painted them as simple-minded and violent
