Everything that happened back then is still the same today to include black society's behavior, mentality, and attitude. Slavery is the root to everything that's "American". So to deny there were no such things as Uncle Toms, no such thing as so-called "c00ns", no such thing as sell-outs really are BLIND to how things are today and how little different they actual are from back then. In fact, it's a lot worse because the mental, psychological breaking of the black man during slavery times was successful to the point the vast majority of the black man are in mental enslavement.
Listen carefully the conversation between Clemons, Solomon, and Michael K. Williams' character: Michael K. Williams told them we should rise up and overtake the crew. Solomon was initially with it because of the assumption that all of them together outnumber can overtake crew but Clemons spoke the reality saying the rest of them were "n*ggers", and their mentality if they don't give a f*ck, don't have a stomach for an uprising. How anyone cannot see the allegory to how it is today is beyond me, because that's how we are today!
There's also the the correlation of our woman and how most of our women today struggle to embrace true love with her black man and vice versa.
Understand that slavery is the root to everything we are enduring today. Even the "Run, N*gga, Run" song is connected to our interactions against the police. Also, the issues with white privilege, the prison industrial complex, religion, and separation of the homes were all allegories connecting then to now.
So to deny the fact Solomon wasn't an Uncle Tom is like saying Clearance Thomas wasn't an Uncle Tom. Solomon didn't care or was naive of how his people was treated and was dismissive about slavery until HE became a slave and it took those 12 years to end up accepting his fate (which was the funeral scene shown).
