Yeppers. This thread is real life. Throw the B.S. in the bushes unless its in engineering or you coming out a top 10 program in the country. Go to grad school, get some research under your belt, build up your connects, experience life in academia (preferably find a program that pays for your science post-grad like mine does :win:) and then decide the route you should take whether it be professional school for a more specific field or industry. It takes a little bit extra commitment but its better than working for peanuts with no real opportunities to advance for the next 30 years of your life. With the Masters degree you'll have more diversity in job opportunity as a science cat and it builds up your resume for more prestigious programs or jobs. Not to mention you are rubbing shoulders with hopefully top researchers in their respective fields, always good for networking.

You're gonna need more education breh. Not really much you can do with just a BS. What are you looking to do and why don't you wanna go to med or dental school? Low GPA or you just burnt out?

This. Same mistake I made. Not much you can do with a B.S. in Biology but get certified to teach science at middle school and high school (even though you're guaranteed a job somewhere :manny: ) I did get an offer with the USDA as a quality control agent :usure:, but fukk that.... you need a higher degree if you want to stay in that field. Sorry bro.

Miami dade college/medical campus....cheapest PA school in the nation and you still get to sit for the boards. Pas r like the hottest growing field in the US. Two yrs of school and your practically a doc... Without having to deal with MCats, residencies or the step exams... And u can switch specialties. Nothing better:win:

:manny: urban kids need better remodels.....

At least they grant loan forgiveness in some districts. In the mean time, you can stack up your dough then further your education, move into school administration, or get into politics. :birdman:

i minored in biology and took organic 1 and physics 1 too. I have no passion for being a doctor, but would have considered this when I was younger.

@Serious the prerequisites aren't bad... Check mdc.edu then look for the medical campus link and when u get there look for the school of health sciences. You will see the PA link and they will show you the prerequisites. It took me about two yrs to do but check with a counselor cuz u might already have em.

@Tony_Bromo dude check it out .... I did a derm rotation and it was pretty cool but thats not my cup of tea. Derm PAs usually end up making over 100 thou.:stylin:

I feel you man. I'm not knocking teaching at all. I've been teaching AP Chemistry for 3 years now. Started off Biology I. I get a random environmental science or earth science class. This is my first year teaching special eduction. (That's what I'm working on my masters in.) A career in education is rewarding and all that, but it's not for everybody. Your heart has to in it. My girl pulled over 100,000 last year without a degree. I just feel like I could do better, especially financially (they aint forgiving my loans :sadcam: you have to work for five years in a low income area  )

i am a dual degree md/phd student at a mstp program in the country, about almost half way done(if you know what that means - its an NIH funded spot for about the top30-40 programs that provides you with full medical school tuition support and ~25k stipend support for each of your med and grad school years). its on average a 7.7 year program

if you are interested in either the medical or the scientific line, i can answer the questions. I sit on the admission committee as a student rep and I can evaluate your credentials with full anonymity if need be.

It is a long process to evaluate whether or not this is the career path that you want (same for just MD or PhD) but I would say its worth it and its never too late to start.
