Wondagurl and a ton of other producers have created a ton of great songs using samples the last two years.
Get them cleared and no issue.
On the other side of that argurment, even Nick Mira (the one who produced) and Internet Money know music theory pretty well and have a lot of youtube videos teaching it.
Sometimes you want to create songs from scratch, sometimes inspiration is found in a sample.

a Sting record from a movie that Nas already made popular. Carl Thomas used it too. You knew shyt was popular when R&B nikkas flip the flip. I get not clearing if you think the song will fly under the radar AND you're unsigned. It's a calculated risk. We're all Monday morning quarterbacking. I don't know if this kid was signed before or after he made the record but SOMEBODY at some point had to be like "you know that's a Sting sample, right?" The producer for hire contract shoulda had something in there about uncleared samples. I always go back to that "Bittersweet Symphony" song when breh won a fukking Grammy for a song with an uncleared obvious sample then got sued.
