Peter Gunz and Lord Tariq sampled a Steely Dan song and bascially made no money off the biggest (only) hit of their career.
They had to give up all that publishing.
Peter Gunz was on Love and HipHop and somebody asked him what about his legacy and he responded with something like:
"I had one hit song...I drive a 1999 Mistubishi Montero..... what legacy?"

:pachaha:
Damn talk about tear jerking:mjcry:

i wonder how much Sting made off of Nas and Carl Thomas for also sampling that...

its crazy how much shyt the new era rips off but then wants to complain they didnt make money off of it.

I learned to make beats thru my own live instrumentation but sampling brings a special vibe too

Nikkas get lazy n just throw on a filter n call it a day.

I do like Havoc and make the shyt unrecognizable.....i'll reverse the damn loop...throw hella phasers n flangers on it. Put so much fukkin reverb on it....you dnt kno wtf it is....also not loopin the most recognizable part too. Grab 5 seconds of a random part that a mfker cant place right away

Also ppl who sample major or well known artists are just fukkin dumb

I tend to sample a lot of old shyt from Brazil, Africa n Asia....lessens the chance of getting litigated

This is the type of behavior that caused song sampling to slow down in the mid-2000s onwards. Too much greediness from the original sampled artists and record labels regarding clearances. :francis:

I dont agree with this at all. If you take my work and twist it up, it is still mine. You got to keep people honest. Pay me for what is mine.

yeah not clearing that up front was a mistake

had they done that sting prolly wouldnt have ran their pockets as hard

but still, dag

juice took it well though, and reacted diplomatically publically at least

I did think it was cool that nick mira produced it, that dude got the best beat tutorials of the team on internet money

I know. But he said he wasnt too sure about it tho so dont quote him. But them quoting the song and making fun of it basically rubbing it in their face mixed with the ridiculous sample clearing stipulations is what makes me believe they ain't shyt. They ain't even diplomatic about the shyt. And from what he said. It wasnt even fully released without them clearing the sample. They just wanted to rob them. Take ALL the credit. Even the writing credit. 100% of the publishing. And then 150k after that. They pieces of shyt for that.
:skip: but if they own it then can do whatever they want

My first reaction the first time I heard this muhfukka whining like a bytch over what I considered to be the beat to Nas' The Message was one of utter disgust... So I can only imagine what Sting who made the original thought lol

But yeah, don't the producer and the songwriter get equal points on songs? To me Sting's cut should come from the producer's haul

You be saying some mean shyt my nikka
