They’re not overachieving though. They’re landing right where you would expect them to with an MVP caliber player on their team. He’s not dragging them to conference finals or NBA finals. They’ve lost exactly where you expect them to lose. I’m not saying this invalidates him for MVP but the argument that his teams are overachieving isn’t true unless you’re saying to consider the roster without him on it.

The last 3 teams to beat Jokic in the playoffs were the 2022 champs, the 2021 runner-ups, and the 2020 champs. How can he drag them to the Finals if he has to play the best team before he gets there?

In 2020 Jokic led the team to the #3 seed and the equivalent of 52 wins. In the playoffs he had the game-winner in Game 7 to beat the Jazz, then the comeback from 3-1 down to upset the Clippers, before going down in the WCF to the AD-Bron Lakers in peak form.

In 2021 Jokic led the team to the #3 seed and the equivalent of 54 wins. He then beat the Dame-CJ-Powell Blazers with MPJ and Monte Morris as his #2/#3, before going down to a Suns team that had two MVP candidates and a DPOY candidate and was rolling to the Finals.

In 2022 Jokic only led the team to 48 wins because they were 2-6 in the games he missed. It was still shytty luck that they ended up with the #6 seed and had to face the Warriors in the first round who were about to go on and win the title.

Jokic balled out in those Suns and Warriors series, but there's only so much you can do when you're the only elite player on your team and facing a well-tuned elite squad. I feel like some of y'all have no awareness of context at all. If you lose to the best team then you lost to the best team, doesn't matter which round you face them in. Give him a sidekick/squad like AD-Bron, Booker-CP3-Bridges-Ayton, or Steph-Wiggins-Klay-Poole-Draymond and at least he has a chance.

This was the Warriors shooting #'s in the series Jokic lost:

Steph 28ppg on 50% shooting, 40% from 3pt.
Klay 23ppg on 51% shooting, 46% from 3pt.
Poole 21ppg on 55% shooting, 48% from 3pt.
Wiggins 14ppg on 53% shooting, 54% from 3pt.
Draymond 10ppg on 53% shooting, 36% from 3pt.
Payton 7ppg on 71% shooting, 75% from 3pt
How the fukk is he supposed to compete with that? You gonna blame the center for not blanketing all the 3pt shooters now? :why:

Y'all having a different energy for Jokic' playoff record than you do for Harden's playoff record even though the Beard has pushed the Warriors more :mjpls:

Harden didn't push the Warriors to shyt. :dead:

In Houston's 3 wins against the Warriors in 2018, Harden shot 25-71 from the field, 6-38 from 3pt, and had 12 turnovers compared to just 11 assists. Plus he was the worst defender in the lineup. :mjlol:

Harden gets clowned because he plays like shyt every time it matters in the playoffs. He has some of the worst big game performances in NBA history. Jokic has played great in the playoffs, including in those Warriors and Suns series, so it's no comparison at all.

I'm hoping Tatum wins it but he better create separation in the W/L column because Jokic's stats are absolutely ridiculous and he has the inferior roster. Right now Celtics only have one fewer loss than the Nuggets do.

That said, if Celtics can finish with the #1 record in the league then Tatum might have the edge just due to voter fatigue advantage.

The way things look…. Jokic winning this, number 1 in the west and the only super star player on his team, it’s his unless Tatum finishes first in the east or Durant gets a better finish record wise cause KD deserves it too, so far MVP race is between Jokic, Tatum, KD and Giannis… anyone of them truly deserves it this season

Joker doesn't look like he's going to slow down any time soon...But Imagine if Jokic ends up with as many MVPs as Lebron or Jordan without getting to the finals?..... Yes, I know...It's a regular-season award...but the optics of a player having 4 or 5 MVPs without making it to the finals or winning a championship would not look right

That will just be a disgrace for the NBA, Nash with 2 MVP's. Shaq and Kobe combined with 2.

Jerry West with Finals MVP despite loss. They were ready to give Bird the Finals MVP even if he lost in 1984.

Its racial, afterall the vast majority of NBA writers and journalists that give this award are white and see themselves much more in white dudes, even if they are foreigners.

The reason why Jokic is going for 3 right now is the lower bar white players are held to. He was on the SIXTH seed last year and still won.

MVP discussions before the all star break are pointless. Still a lot of ball left. Only way Jokic gets 3 straight is if he’s far and away the best player. I don’t see the gap being that big.

Doesn’t matter.

These are also just arbitrary circumstantial awards. Him winning as many MVP’s as LeBron or Jordan doesn’t mean shyt.

Did LeBron make the Finals in 2009 or 2010? No.

Did Jordan make it in 1988? No.

The NBA Finals has nothing to do with the regular season MVP award. That award goes to the most valuable player in the league. The most impactful player in the league.

Jokic is historical no one is making the damn Finals with Aaron Gordon as their second best player.

41/15/15 on X-Mas…25/11/9 on 62% FG for the season, Nuggets are the one seed.

Maybe just maybe son is just that good. That’s the real problem here is that y’all childhood idols are threatened by some pudgy Serbian cac.
