Joe Manchin: I won’t vote for For The People Act or Weaken/Eliminate Filibuster!

Is the Democrats’ legislative agenda finished in the Biden era?

Make this make sense to me.
Letting whoever is in control push their agenda through unchallenged would mean the defunding/elimination of the epa, the expansion of fossil fuels exploration, a reduction in climate related aid, etc...

Trumps policies were enough under the current structure... a free for all for whoever has control could push us passed the tipping point.

edit: :hubie:This is assuming you believe climate change is the existential threat i believe it is.
As long as one side rejects science im not for a free for all.

*cooks up usual comment of*

why wont biden threaten manchin with bodily harm on live tv and/or tiktok to prove he is trying

*with a dash of*

do nothing dems

*and a sprinkle of*

but i have no solutions about what can be done in light of this, i just like to complain and threaten to actually do nothing in the future so the people actively against my interests gain more power
We get it the POTUS Biden is powerless against members of his own party. He's just a victim of circumstance.

Are dems holding you back from those policies or is it republicans? News flash, there will be more Republicans in power if people like you vote third party which will lower the probability of those measures passing next to nil. You need more Democrats in power not less.
Both parties are against those things as a majority

This sounds just as optimistically naive and disingenuous as Machin believing he's saving democracy when in reality he's pouring more accelerant.

The point of governing in the now is to protect vulnerable areas and legislation because you understand you won't always hold power and you understand their necessity for existence. Not trying to succumb to something that may or may not happen at some undisclosed point in the future is not effective governing nor the definition of democracy.

May or may not happen... :dwillhuh: They literally enacted and pushed for those things during trumps presidency.
Biden cancelled the drilling permits, and rejoined the accords his first day in office.

Rethugs are in favor of fossil fuel. This isnt a reach, or maybe situation.

America is fine...:comeon:The media pushes the fringes in an attempt to make it seem like the norm.

Either way its still not an argument for risking the entire planet.
We had one party literally storm the capital and try to kill the sitting Congress and overthrow the government and you say it's fine? This is why people shouldn't do drugs.

Folks are focused on Joe Manchin and Sinema being the baddy not realizing they are deliberate foils for parts of the democratic party. They supposedly have many democrats who silently support them and view them as the tip of the spear in pushing back on progressive demands.

See this
Joe Manchin: Deeply Disappointed in GOP and Prepared to Do Absolutely Nothing

It's not unreasonable to assume that Biden himself secretly believes the same. Notice how he has started to work on backtracking on certain things. Not even entertaining a 10k forgiveness for student loans anymore.

Companion takes :francis:

Having a "Bad guy/girl" to rail against is good for media-driven narratives but the more messy reality is that the two villains aren't alone.

The point is, the Dems now hold the power to make those interests harder to revert to preserve them, they should use that power. Force prioritization for when R's can gain enough control to make changes.
