Sony and Square have a great relationship already though. Why pay several billions for a publisher that already gives you everything you want? Final Fantasy is damn near already a PlayStation exclusive, the only reason would be to insure that Microsoft can’t buy them, but Microsoft buying Square would actually make less sense than Sony.

because if sony wants Spartacus to blossom into a good gaming service they need the back catalogue, and sonys 1st party didn't really start to flourish until the end of the PS3.

if they want all those good psx/ps2 classics they need square enix's library, tomb raider, deus ex, final fantasy, dragon quest, kingdom hearts etc etc

they would get an exclusive football game, Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and Castlevania. All have a lot of cross-media appeal. Only problem is they are only getting IP and no real talent. and that Derpy fox engine that hasn't been updated since last gen.

If they did nothing would be coming out for a few years. And with the studios they currently own would they even need Fox Engine?

That’s a good point. I need to see what Spartacus actually is.
It wouldn’t be bad for Sony, but more like unnecessary.

microsoft and sony both kind of shaking hands and agreeing that they are gonna spend money for the rest of the gen pretty much means nothing is unnecessary anymore. content wars are starting

I don't think so, i think it would really revitalize sonys presence in Japan. We also know sony ain't lettin go of Final Fantasy, so if they want to keep the IP that might be what they have to do

also, they get their back catalogue for their gaming service

A bunch of remakes they can send over to bluepoint games as well

GTA and 2K exclusive will be a far more horrific blow than Final Fantasy
T2 better stay independent lol

Take two is worth 20Billion sony isn't buying publishers. Microsoft probably has already put in a bid but Take two is obviously in a position to say no. It would defintely be a blow if Microsoft purcased them. Can't see Sony doing it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony buys both ArcSys and Atlus.
