I don't see any Olympic level runners doing it with no shoes. I see HOF and perennial playoff coaches doing it before year 5 though...

Which successful coach in the last 25 years needed to take until their 5th year to be good?

Which coach that didn't "succeed" do you think would have succeeded of they got a 5th year?
A number of coaches who have been successful did so at their 2nd or 3rd or even 4th jobs.

Count the years it took to get there.

Making the playoffs is hardly the bar for success.
Unless you think the Vikings were successful.
But ok.

So what are you saying it takes 5 years to do? Build a foundation? And what does a foundation actually mean?

And if you're saying that it takes 5 years to build a foundation, do you feel that foundations transfer over from different franchises

You said the Jets are a 5-year project at best? Five-year project to make the playoffs? 5 years to become what?

You listed Ken Whisenhunt, Brad Childress and Matt Nagy above.

Are those successful coaches?

Yeah relatively speaking.
Whisenhunt went to a SB and divisional round. Was a crazy throw and catch away from winning one.

Childress went to a wild card game and NFCCG and was some bad calls away from winning it.

Most coaches don't succeed and most teams don't have sustained success. I don't think either of those franchise regret those hires

Nagy actually went to the playoffs in 2 out of his 4 seasons IIRC. The Bears hadn't gone to the playoffs from 2011 to 2017. Nagy got there in 2018 and inherited a bad Mitch Trubisky and went 12-4 in his first year. He was fired before year 5, by the way. So would you say that he didn't have time to lay down his foundation and should have gotten another year? Because ultimately, that was the premise of your original argument.

i don't think the jets are as bad as people are saying.... imagine what glenn can do with that defensive roster after what he did with detroit. if the jets draft graham for interior DL help, add a couple of DBs and improve the OL then they can be a competitive team.
They had a great defense unde Salah.
Sam Darnold and Geno Smith looked like non-QBs in NY and then go on and put up crazy numbers.

The Jets are a terrible organization.

NY throwin a festival, concert, ball drop and all that when the Jets finally find their way to the playoffs again. At this point, playoffs are a myth. :mjcry:
