i would say im more of a "follow your passion" school of thought, im very :patrice: about the notion of pushing people into STEM majors or any major

i think we definitely need more black STEM majors but i think the real issue to focus on is high school and elementary, i think if you fix and focus on that, other problems fix themselves including lack of black stem majors

right now as we speak there are black people dropping out of high school, lets get the basics down first

I'm not sure what you expect them to do. If someone has the skills to command $100k from silicon valley, what do you expect them to do otherwise?

Well that's the catch...

Work for a White man and live comfortably but risk unemployment at their volition or struggle until you get your business off the ground and service the Black community

It's a tough position that most aren't willingly to take the risk. It's a similar dilemma to music artist with this indie vs 360 deal.. imagine if Black people used their skill-sets to create, own, innovate and solve problems in their communities but I understand it''s a individualistic, dog eat dog world. Can't knock someone for taking a wage under another person.

Uh, no. White supremacy has hurt black advancement.
dawg.

get the fukk outta here.

Not EVERYTHING is a result of white supremacy.

We gotta put ourselves in the best possible positions to succeed.

I know for a fact black folks aren't doing that. Theres some success, but the relatively few can't carry everyone.

I agree with you, but jesse is already talking about employment in fields that assume we're talking about college students so...

STEM majors have an expiration date and it's sooner than you think. They are good majors to pursue but they aren't a longterm situation, depending on your age.
you keep saying this trope and theres nothing to support it.

oh wow...machines...big whoop.

Tell me how you're gonna compete with that English degree though. Or that major in communications.

stop lying to these people.

I think alot of black kids want to get into that tech field. black kids are not stupid especially the ones that know their shyt. I was going for web design and communications and technology... but i had to drop out I couldn't quite pay 6k a semester even with pell grants and taps... Its not the kids faults sometimes its the finances... colleges are very expensive and just imagine the tuition on those ivy leagues... why am I not surprised there's not alot of minorities in silicon valley. Don't you have to graduate from one of those crazy high tech schools in their perspective fields. MIT, CalTech. NYU. etc... etc...

:snoop:

I read this and I just hear excuses fam.

"strawman argument" and advanced automation isn't a trope.

Thinking rigorously isn't unique to STEM majors. Stem majors make what their bosses set their salaries at... a man who self-employs has no ceiling.
It is actually when you have a toolset that comes only with a specific set of schooling and exposure to unique concepts.

You keep talking about being "self employed" but without skills what is there to even EMPLOY in the first place?

STEM majors are given a set of tools that set them apart, and with internships and entry level career jobs, they refine those skills to become even more proficient.

You keep talkign about "self employment" but what fields is that? Restaurants? Hair shops? Tire stores?

What "black businesses" are we talking about here my dude?

Not an alternative, rather a different allocation of skills. I don't care what Black people major in as long as they are savvy enough to create their own business out of it. A STEM major going to use their brainpower for Silicon Valley is doing themselves a disservice and to the Black community. Local economies and small business ownership is going to be the most effective ways to stave off advanced automation.

Then you don't care about black people.

I'd venture to say 90% of the black millionaires are entertainers.

The rest came out of fields where they gained acuity via STEM fields. Period.

You can't start a business without work experience, and that work experience comes from gaining skills pertinent to the job you want to perform eventually.

nikkas ain't just gonna start networking and IT firms without working in that field or learning what it entails. Thats not some shyt you start up on a saturday.

You're exposing how little you know about the barriers to entry in the fields we're talking about.

No, you get the fukk out of here. You're delusional if you don't think white supremacy is the greatest obstacle standing in the way of black mobility.

STEM majors require one form of intelligence... true.

Do you know what STEM means?

SCIENCE (broad)
Technology (broad)
Engineering (SUPER broad)
MATH (very useful)

Tell me how that is "one" form of intelligence????

Hell, if we had double the number of black kids currently in math majors, we'd see an improvement in students seeking more technical and financial fields.

Napoleon, are you functionally retarded? I stated earlier that STEM gives you a skill-set to seek self-employment.

Then you don't care about black people.

I'd venture to say 90% of the black millionaires are entertainers.

As long as Black people are creating businesses that better our community, I don't care what they are...

The rest of your post is strawman, once again.
