Exactly. And we are not saying this out of keeping things as they are . I would LOVE for HBCUs to have the same facilities to go along with the other things that only HBCUs can provide black students.

They won't ever have the same facilities because they don't have the money for it. You know how they can get the money for it? By having a better football product to put on the field. You know how they can get a more attractive product? By being able to get better players. But most of you seem to be against that. Not sure why.

Or a house and job.

Unfortunately, this article assumes that schools are recruiting to the standards the NCAA holds them to. They aren't.

You'd also have to assume that people would start supporting HBCU's and attending games/buying merch/making donations, just because they have better players. We know white people better than that. They won't.

Why would we need white people to support HBCU's?

Didn't she say straight black men are the new white men?

Also, hbcus don't have million dollar facilities and world class trainers.

A better alternative at the moment would be for black players to go play for the handful of black coaches at white schools.

And able to create superior athletes, then no.

I entered OU weighing 165 pounds. I was 190 in four months because of the facilities and things they provided me.

I still wonder what was in those lil bag of vitamins they had in a cardboard box as you left the weight room. :patrice:

Also, how many hbcus are there vs the tens of thousands of black kids who play high school football?

You cant split all that up, so they'd end up at white schools anyway just to get a college degree.

And on the flip side theres kids who get football schollys at hbcus, but may not be good enough to get a scholly at a D1 school.

Virtually impossible for HBCU's to catch-up in that regard and unfortunately its a systematic barrier that can't be broken on football at a minimum.

If you want to have the facilities, the coaching, the recruiting abilities, etc, and the ability to provide a viable alternative to a top 20 program, you’re going to need money on par with them to compete.

In my estimation, the alumni base and the non-alumni fanbase will need to be larger than just the local black community in order for the team to pull in the $40+ million/year required.

HBCUs will get the facilities when the players start going to the HBCUS

That's how the PWI got theirs, the facilities were not there before black players started going to these schools.

Once the black players start going to the HBUCs, the things that these PWIs have, HBCUs will have.

It will take 2-3 classes, you'll start to see new things arrive on campuses of the HBCUs.

Ppl will now want to go to these games more, which will produce the $$$ so that you can build these things, or have the project layout for these things.

These cac schools didn't build these things overnight? Once the players start going to these HBCUs, things will shift quickly because it's not that many HBCUS.

Not sure why folks don't understand this

Most of these college stadiums, at least the historically good teams, were built pre-integration. The schools were supported by old money and still are.

You'd literally have build up an 80 year system, ignoring all of the socioeconomic differences, to replicate it.

You'd have to ignore the buildup of wealth by these schools through land, endowments, gifts, etc. over the last 100+ years.

Ppl forget LSU use to be pissy and shytty once upon a time, Their campus was pretty much like a HBCU at a time, :mjlol:

Their kids were leaving LSU to go up the street to SU and play,

It took them Nick Saban to shut that down and for them to build up their program to get their state of the art facilities.

Nick Saban never got to see these amenities at LSU :mjlol:

Bruh

Dudes ignore the fact that there’s players EVERY YEAR who don’t even need college, they’re just required to go :dead:

This would be tough to pull off in football, but one and done basketball players would not suffer AT ALL in terms of development by going to an hbcu

These facilities at top programs are funded by black athletes

The ncaa tv tournament deal is 93 percent funded by black athletes

Take away black athletes and duke is the Colorado school of mines

If 2 to 3 of the top players ESPN classes decided to go to HBCUs starting next year, how will the $$$ look at these schools? Let's start there.

In 2022, all the top players are putting on the hats of HBCUs, what is CBS and ABC going to do for their games??? Let's start there

I agree with both sentiments, this shouldn’t just be shouldered by athletes. People like Jemele should be creating independent Black media collectives that are not compromised by non Black influence. That way people have an alternative instead of having to be on espn on your best behavior.

In the case of athletes, even if they go to HBCUs they’re still within the non Black NCAA and in certain cases the schools are as corrupt as any African country and are actively working with cacs shoulder to shoulder. Why the fukk is James Comey doing anything at Howard let alone lecturing a student body that wouldn’t relate to him? You give administrations like that a boost in resources like five star athletes what make you think they would suddenly change their ways and do right by the students and professors?

How do you get that out of this?

I swear to god, some of you dudes just aren't sharp at all. Your this vs that mentalities make you unable to have contextual conversations
