Did Jay-z sign the contracts?

Not reading the contracts might be a defence if people are authorised to enter into agreements on his behalf, when certain conditions have been met.

I suppose their next argument would be his agents having the ostensible authority to enter into agreements on his behalf.

The fact is, there isn’t some black letter law that says as a business man you understand every contract in front of you. You have to look at how the contract was drafted and the understanding between the parties. Jay could argue that they had an oral agreement and the written contract was supposed to memorialize that and he didn’t read the fine print. That’s his point about not being a lawyer. He’s arguing that he didn’t read it and he didn’t have legal counsel involved so he was operating from a position of ignorance.

I doubt he gets hit with the whole 18 million. It's also impossible to get the details of the entire case from snippets of the defendants testimony.

No it’s not.

‘jay z got in business with them because he wanted a cologne.
That’s not a response to the point of his statement lol.

Jay Z got a cologne because they came to him with a deal that made sense. He didn’t go looking for them, this was essentially an endorsement deal. Once he kept getting more popular and his other businesses were rising he just distanced himself from the cologne because if it was gonna end up in bargain stores it would bring his overall brand down.

Do you get it now?

Basically the suit is trying to claim that Hov's the reason the line (and effectively their business) suffered.

It's a high burden to prove in NYS though. However, it's an expected lawsuit from someone in Hov's capacity.

I have a feeling this'll be settled or denied.

Jay-Z getting old and clumsy. That's an inexcusable L for not reading the details.
