Am I the only one feeling that the beat to Kill Jay-z could bang a bit harder, the drums/bass are too soft
It's like that for a lot of the album. The mix is ass. I dunno what NO ID was going for he did this same shyt on nobody smiling which hurt that album too. The dynamics are off. Only songs like that don't suffer from this are like 4.44 and and a couple others..

Finally listened to this album. I'm not trying to rain on nikkas' parade in here or nothing but the album really ain't all that to me. :hubie:

I think the only reason nikkas is hype is cause he's opening up more than he has in the past. And before some stan comes at me and says "did you really listen to it or skim through it?". Yes. I listened to it more than a couple of times. shyt I'd already read the lyrics to a number of songs cause nikkas was quoting his shyt left and right on here and other sites. Not only that, but I've heard quite a few nikkas riding around bumping this shyt too.

With a title like "The Story of O.J." I was anticipating more but the song didn't meet my expectations (love the Nina Simone sample tho!). The beats for 4:44 and Family Feud are nice. Those 2 beats stand out the most. Legacy too. I love the Donny Hathaway sample and the horns on Legacy. Horns always sound so rich.

But yeah, this album is just aight. :ld:Nothing I would say that's incredible or great like a lot of nikkas is saying. Just ok.:yeshrug:

See, that's the problem w/ stans.

A stan will love and lap up any and everything the person they stan puts in front of them. Stans can't come with constructive criticism.

A fan tho? A fan can dissect shyt for what it is. A fan can appreciate the good shyt and call out the other shyt for what it is. whether it's ok, decent, average, or weak.

A fan don't get caught up in worshipping the artist.

Stans do tho.

Exactly.

People are quick to cement their impressions of an album after listening to it for a few hours or days.

It's easily jay z's best effort when comparing it to his last few efforts but that's not saying much.

Jay Z is at a different stage in his life. This album reflects someone who isn't hungry and has nothing to prove. More importantly most hip hop fans can't relate to none of his topics. Musically it's solid but it's not a "classic". Which is hard to do in this day and age. If this was a debut album the vibe would feel different though.

Feel like "Caught their Eyes" is a whole sub to Kanye and his "Friendship" with jay.

People talking about that Prince line but don't let that distract you from the fact that Hov is alluding to Kanye being phony and a gay fish.

Listen......
That Paris line Got me thinking Jay seen Kanye do some weird shyt in Paris:patrice:
