It's a good album, but it's very by the book. Jay-Z isn't at his best here, but he's great. The problem I have is that this will be overvalued. Jay-Z is replicating Life is Good here -- with No I.D. and lyrical themes. The rapping is very good, but I don't know -- this isn't doing anything for me in terms of innovation. My favorite aspect of Jay is that he can blend with eras and innovate on a mainstream platform. It's a 7.5/10 for me. Like Life is Good, 4:44 will probably grow on me.

I think Big Fish Theory is a better release of the last two weeks.. I don't know, I'm preparing to get negged. I just think hip-hop is moving forward with style and sound nowadays. 4:44 is Jay-Z's celebration lap.

Went to 2 spots tonight and heard Bam :wow:

Yeah I was also out last night and I heard it being played, but they upped the pitch a little bit on it so a little tricky to distinguish at first.

People were loving it though, this album's outreach knows no limits evidently.

I have to ask..... how many times does he quote Biggie on this album?

Biggie: "Live from Bedford Stuyvesant the Livest one represented BK to the Fullest, Gats I pull it b*stards duckin when Big be buckin" (Unbelieveable)

Hov: "Live from Bedford Stuyvesant the livest one represented BK to the Fullest, Gats I pull it, b*stards duckin when Hov be Buckin" (Marcy Me)

Biggie: "Go to room 112, Tell em Blanco Sent Ya" (N!ggaz Bleed)

Hov: "So when you get to Hell, Tell em Blanco Sent Ya" (Bam)

Also he shouts Big out by name on a few tracks and as I posted earlier in this thread he made references to Big's "LAD" promo poster and underground song "Think Big".

"Y'all Think Small, I Think Biggie."

I knew there had to be some Biggie quotes. :wow:

The bolded is a reference to an IG handle "tellemblancosentya" that posts pictures of well known New York area hustlers, including Jay.

Y'all be talking crazy under them IG pictures....

Psalms 82:6

My wife and I sitting back absorbing this jawn like :manny:

But the timing seems off :patrice:

She asked me is Jay a republican or a democrat or self indifferent liberal? And I told her he campaigned for Hillary

I mean he's made songs about being a conservative in the past but I don't think he's a conservative?

Anyways we both agreed the album is hard and wondered if he would start actively hiring young black men that need jobs since he has two clear employment platforms (Tidal/Rocnation)

You guys realize the unemployment rate for black men has exceeded Great Depression levels.. it's sad in Baltimore.. like very sad I'm sure @BmoreGorilla can explicate so I guess my final thought or takeaway from 4:44;

Is Jay hiring? If not will he start soon?
