Illmatic flopped too when it came out, just keep that in mind. Not comparing this jawn to Illmatic quality wise at all, but it doesn't matter if it flops first week if you still feel the impact of it and it leaves a mark...once people are ready to stop being dumb and get tired of listening to goofy shyt they'll double back and buy the album. Illmatic is like double platinum now, for example.

That is like posting One Time 4 Your Mind and saying Illmatic is not poetic. As if that album doesn't have NYSOM, The World Is Yours, Memory Lane and It Ain't Hard To Tell.

I dare you to post Jay Electronica's lyrics from Ghost of Soulja Slim, Neverending Story, Universal Soldier, Fruits of the Spirit or A.P.I.D.T.A., and ask us what is exactly poetic about THOSE verses. I'll wait...
:sas2:

1. NAS WAS DROPPING 3 VERSES A SONG.

2. DONT COMPARE ELECS SPIRITUAL & MOVIE
REFERENCES TO ILLMATICS LYRICISM.

"Jay Electollah Flomeini mainly is support mainly
The fatwa he issued on al-Shayṭān was delivered plainly

It's the day of Qiyāmah
To the believers, I bring you tidings of joy
But if you want beef, I'll filet mignon ya"

A “Fatwa” is an official pronouncement, ruling or order from an Islamic religious leader. While “al-Shayṭān” means “devil” or “evil spirits” in Islamic belief.

Jay refers to himself as ‘Jay Electollah Flomeini’ in a reference to the former Iranian Ayatollah, Ruhollah Khomeini. In 1989, Khomeini issued a fatwa ordering muslims to kill British novelist Salman Rushdie for publishing a novel he deemed blasphemous; titled ‘The Satanic verses’. Soon after his pronouncement, a series of attempted murders and bombings followed.

In Islamic tradition, Yawm al-Qiyāmah يوم القيامة‎
means “the Day of Resurrection”. Also known as Yawm ad-Din يوم الدين‎ meaning “the Day of Judgment”; it is believed to be God’s final assessment of humanity.

The equivalent of the Christian ‘Judgement Day’, it is the period of time when everyone would be shown his or her deeds and met with justice.

No. The comparison is very much appropriate because you choose to quote the one verse where Jay Electronica is not trying to be lyrical/poetic, like Nas was on One Time 4 Your Mind on Illmatic. He is just having fun with it on Ezekiel's Wheel. You deliberately fail to mention the lyrical gems that are on all the other tracks.

I see you didn't quote one of the verses I mentioned in my post, as you sure as hell know those are very poetic/ lyrical. You can't prove me wrong there I see.
:yeshrug:

The Jay Electronica verses I mentioned:
- Ghost of Soulja Slim
- Neverending Story
- Universal Soldier
- Fruits of the Spirit
- A.P.I.D.T.A.

Quote one of them and ask "what's poetic/lyrical about them"?

I'll start:

Eyes fiery, cry tears to my diary
Sometimes a Xanny bar can't help you fight back the anxiety
I go to my Lord quietly, teardrops on our faces
Teardrops on my face, it's like teardrops become waterfalls by the time they reach my laces
My eyelids is like levees but my tear ducts is like glaciers
As I contemplate creation, the salt that heals my wounds pour out my eyes just like libations
I can't stop my mind from racing, I got numbers on my phone
Pictures on my phone
The day my mama died, I scrolled her texts all day long
The physical returns but the connection still stay strong
Now I understand why you used to cry sometimes we ride down Claybourne
You just missed your— You just missed your mama
Now I just miss my mamas
The clothes we wear to bed at night to sleep is just pajamas
The flesh we roam this earth in is a blessing, not a promise
I bow with those who bow to the creator and pay homage

:mjlol:THATS ONLY 5 VERSES ON A 10 TRACK ALBUM WHICH IS MY POINT.

IF YOU ONLY DROPPING 10 VERSES
ON A WHOLE ALBUM
EVERYONE BETTER BE CRAZY.

This is such a copout. You made it a point to discredit the album's poetic/lyrical nature by quoting that one verse over and over again. Than I give you examples of highly poetic/lyrical verses and suddenly your point is that there isn't enough of it? Check your own posts back man, you're backpedaling and still not answering my question about the lyricism in the tracks I posted.

I love this album it makes me think outside myself

I would love this album to be remixed by lots of other producers and see what they can do with it

But I love it as is

COP OUT?
NO YOU JUST ARRIVED LATE TO THE PARTY.

DUDE TAGGED ME TALKING ABOUT BARS
SO I REPLIED WITH THAT VERSE.

IVE BEEN VERY CONSISTENT
WITH MY STANCE ON THE ALBUM.

I fukk WITH IT...

PRODUCTION IS A-1...

NEEDED MORE BARS THOUGH.

ITS GOOD TO HEAR NON TRAP BEATS
ON A MAINSTREAM ALBUM AGAIN...

HAS A LATE REGISTRATION VIBE TO IT
MUSICALLY...

8-9 ONE VERSE TRACKS ARE RUBBING ME
THE WRONG WAY AS A RAPPER
CONSIDERING IT TOOK 10 YRS TO DROP THIS.

I WAS IN THE GYM
AND PLAYED THIS ABOUT 4 TIMES
JUST SHOOTING AROUND.

I ESPECIALLY FEEL
IF YOURE GONNA DO 1 VERSE TRACKS,
AFTER A 10 YR WAIT AT THAT,
EACH VERSE BETTER BE ABSOLUTELY NUTS...

DUDES VERSES SHOULD HAVE BEEN CRAZY
SINCE HE ONLY GAVE US ABOUT 3 SONGS WORTH
OF BARS IN THE WHOLE ALBUM.

WHAT EXACTLY IS POETIC ABOUT THIS VERSE?

THIS IS WEAK LYRICISM...
STRAIGHT THROW AWAY VERSE
ON AN ALBUM WITH LIMITED VERSES.

I agree with dude ^
That I'm tryna catch a body scheme verse was cool but everything should have been perfect for a 10+ year wait tbh. I still fux with the album but act 2 better drop next year, I hope he broke the seal with this and is gonna start releasing music regularly
