This is a vanity project. As in the intended audience was really Roc Nation and those affiliated to Jay Elec. Jay Elec's in his own lane with how he raps, how he makes music, etc. which is why nothing should surprise you with how he put out this project.

The reason why idiots like Joe Budden are suggesting Jay-Z > Jay Electronica on this tape is because most of Jay Electronica's references went over their heads. Every single verse Electronica spit is littered with gems. Some I picked out:

"I put on for my nation like I'm King T'Challa,
crushing the Oyibo that try to bring wahala"

:ooh:

"It''s the return of the Mahdi,
it's the return of the Akhis,
It's the return of the lost and found tribe of Shabazz, the Annunakis"

ya'll gotta refer back to the ancient scrolls to decipher this one:mjlit:

"The son of slaves, I started out as a peasant
That's why I build my temple like Solomon in the desert,
The lord is my rock,
I speed dial through salat"

double entendre here :
1) BUILD HIS TEMPLE- as in acquire knowledge referring to the temple region of the skull :damn:
2)
creating imagery of slaves/peasants building the temple of Solomon

"I started on Tatooine but now I'm way out in Dagobah.
Mastered the force made my saber in the light now"

- bars on Ezekial's Wheel with the UFO imagery :picard:

Excellent reference to showcase his mastery - Luke Skywalker started out a bum on tatooine before mastering the force in dagobah with Yoda :blessed:

Honestly, Jay Electronica's verses are full of intricate lines/wordplay/imagery/references - you really have to go over it a couple of times. Anyone that says he got washed isn't paying close enough attention :manny:
It's not that deep arab c00n

"Sometimes, like Santiago, at crucial points of my novel
My only logical option was to transform into the wind"

Reference to the 1988 novel The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho.

Near the end of the novel the novel’s protagonist Santiago must turn into a simoom (wind that blows in the Middle East) to prove his oneness with the world.

Also, note that as the final line is delivered, Jay’s voice is affected by reverberation to effectively contribute to the concept of becoming one with the wind. Although it’s more on the technical side, it is still an intentional choice made by the artist to emphasize his point.

Neither tool can be used to fix our defects

It's not, it's actually the absolute perfect reference because it fits his story perfectly.

Everybody can't do it, because not everybody would even be aware of the reference let alone use it in context properly.

Hip Hop is filled with similes and references, it doesn't mean it's lazy. Lazy is when it's random and thrown in there with no thought.

For the concept of the album it's important those were used. Also that's not all he did, most of the lyrics on the album were original, he just referenced things too when fitting. Infact even the lines prior to this were excellent, he just finished it off with that part, very well. Just gonna post these references so people know what he means there who may have missed them and can figure it out from there.

WHOLE ALBUM IS FULL OF
SPIRITUAL, RELIGIOUS, MOVIE/TV REFERENCES.

WHEN YOU CONSIDER
HE ONLY DROPPED 10 VERSES
ITS VERY LAZY WRITING.

LIKE DUDE YOU CANT GIVE US
ORIGINAL THOUGHTS/GEMS WITH THE LIMITED
BARS YOU PROVIDED?

I saw someone say that Jaz Z is translating Jay Electronica for the uninformed ...

the Muslim and Biblical references flew over their heads
