Callum Newman beat KENTA as well. Looks like they are doing what I said they need to do with this qualifying tournament - letting the young guys win and setting up what should be BOltin and Newman making the G1. Boltin vs. Taichi, Newman vs. Yoshi-Hashi in the qualifier finals.

I just realized this is the first time in forever Toru Yano won't be in the G1 as well. No more cheap wins and lame matches from him :ohhh:

Callum Newman and Boltin Oleg won their qualifier tournaments to make the G1, just like I said they should

Will be interesting to see what they do with them now. They seem to be strapping a rocket to Oleg, at least by NJPW standards, but having him win the B block would be a stretch with Tsuji, Narita, and Uemura in it right now.

The timing of Shota Umino's injury really sucks. I think he's the most ready to step up to that next level but I don't know how good he's going to be able to be wrestling thru his injury.

Regardless, it's sink or swim time now for the more established young guys. And for NJPW's sake they better hope like hell they start swimming. If not, it's going to be scary for New Japan's future unless they are able to go swipe some talent from the other Japanese promotions.

Thoughts on the G1

Callum Newman needs to be the guy advancing out of the play-in tournament. Other than name recognition for some of the others, tehre's literally no point in having any of the others make it out of the tournament.

Block B...

Oleg Boltin needs to be the guy that comes out of the play-in tournament for all the same reasons as Callum Newman should. And they've already belted him up, it's obvious they see a bright future for him.

Taichi isn't in G1 either. Whole thing is unwatchable now.

In other news, Masato Tanaka will celebrate 30 years of defying death, science and logic by still being active somehow.
