The running joke of this thread is multiple people proposing solutions to @the cac mamba and him incessantly repeating, "No one has proposed a solution!". :dead:

I swear he's like one of those savant chess players who simultaneously plays three opponents blindfolded. Probably just getting updates on his phone that someone has replied and voice-dictating responses without reading the messages or even checking what thread it is.

Par for the course with the cac mamba's bad faith arguments.

Because in any sort of morally justifiable economy, the life and welfare of the employees IS the concern of the employer.
you think we are currently existing under a morally justifiable economy :mjlol:
rich people control government and thus control society and bend it to benefit specifically themselves :mjlol:
How to Make it in America = GRODT
shyt is cut throat out here
but thats how things are everywhere in nature :yeshrug:
i was watching nat geo last night and was reminded just how much life is about get yours or get gotten :wow:

Skilled or unskilled, these are probably the guys who will be against a reasonable universal allowance when AI takes over most unskilled roles.

:mjlol:you think a universal allowance is going to allow some1 to live in a $1600 apt? (inflation adjusted for the time in the future when this becomes a thing)

Uh, where did I say that? I WANT to live in a morally justifiable economy, I certainly didn't claim that the current one lives up to that standard.

A universal allowance, for, say, $1000/month, would allow someone who previously could only afford a $600 apartment to now afford a $1600 apt. Or allow someone who could afford a $1000 apartment to now afford a $1600 apartment as well as make other improvements in their life.

i gotta confess, nowhere in the original twitter video did it state that the woman being discussed was "unskilled" i just threw that in the title for fukkery purposes

truth is, we dont know what credentials this woman has or doesnt have.
true she currently is working a job that doesnt require very specialized "skills" but maybe she was let go from a prior employer and is in between jobs :yeshrug: we really dont know

i feel u but in a free market/supply and demand economy what makes u think prices wont eventually adjust to align with this new influx of 'disposable income'
if u just print a bunch of extra money to give to ppl how do u stop inflation from occurring
im sure all these questions have been raised and intelligently addressed i just havent personally spent much time looking into the universal allowance subject :hubie:

Personally, I wouldn't print money, I would redistribute money from those who are benefiting enormously from the wage-less growth that has accompanied the technology age. Four decades of wage stagnation with massive gains at the top as a tiny proportion of the American population has decided to capture all the gains for themselves. That's where I would start.

The elimination of many welfare programs (now replaced with the more helpful UBI) and a reduction in defense spending, and a redistribution of health care costs would also help.

On prices auto-adjusting, you're right that that's been raised and addressed a lot already. I think massive reformation of property law is a necessity in this country completely outside of any UBI. But to just give an easy answer, "rent control." There are better and more structurally significant answers out there.

She is already being paid well above min wage, and above the desired "living wage of $15/hr despite having no skills... at what point is the onus on her?

$15 min. wage, to me, is a starting point. I believe the minimum wage of every state should match with historical cost-of-living indexes based on where they live. $16/hr. is peanuts in Cali, but it's decent in Missouri, and a good-ass job in Alabama. :kanyebp:

At what point if any do any of you question why some ones skill set maxes out at folding boxes?

How do you know what her skill set is? :bpthink:

and what do you believe the govt. should do if anything?

Fully paying for healthcare would be a start. :kanyebp: Not to mention that would free up JP Morgan-Chase to pay higher wages. :kanyebp:

I think government should subsidize relocation efforts.:yeshrug:

...but they don't. That doesn't cha--wait a minute: aren't you against the ACA because the gov't can't afford it? :heh:

Libertarians always wanna have their cake and eat it too :heh:

Tax payers shouldnt be on the hook for some ones desire to live in one of the most expensive cities/states on the planet... in my opinion.

What if she was born there? :bpgucci:

You say "desire" as if being born in California and not being able to make ends meet is a foreign concept.:bpdahell:

People with unskilled work who are "cozy" are the ones who are able to take classes, gain skills, improve themselves, and most of all get their kids a decent education with a safety net at home so their kids can become skilled workers.

Forcing unskilled workers to live hand-to-mouth is EXACTLY how you prevent a larger skilled workforce from developing.
Education reform would be much more effective in my opinion.
Majority of people in these positions weren’t studious to begin with... and i see no reason to assume they will suddenly take up education/acquiring skills... as great as it sounds.
More over, i do not believe subsidizing unskilled labor(making them “cozy”) will lead to less of it:manny:

If they dont have thier ends meet, how do they focus on being more productive at work? If I have to worry about the expenses of child care and who is going to take care of my kid, I'm not going to be focused on work.
This is part of how wages are set... and part of why less than 10% of the economy makes minimum wage.
JP obviously feels they can get competent workers in that position at $16/hr... and I’m sure they have evidence to support it.:yeshrug:

I'll be the first to say that yes, cost of living is going up across the US and that CEO pay is at an all time high, but at the same time I gotta imagine she's not cutting her cloth according to her size. You can't bring home $2.4k but pay 67% of your net income in rent. That's just poor home economics.

I'm in the DC area and while DC isn't as expensive as the LA metro area, I can't imagine it's too far off. Ol' girl gotta look for cheaper accommodations. I'm sure she could rent a basement for like 800-900.

:patrice:You got me thinking, what would happen to small businesses and mom & pop locations in Cali if we instituted a “living wage” $25-30/hr...
...and would the liberal supermajority be ok with handing the state over completely to big business.

:troll:Government funded caravans from Cali to Wyoming or Ohio should begin.

There are such things as tax breaks and incentives for small businesses that fall under certain thresholds. :bpdahell:

For example, a business I started last year broke even, meaning I didn't pay myself. You really think the feds coming after me for not paying myself $8/hour? :issaheh:

Why are you being obtuse? :bpdahell:
