I'm sure there will be investigations all over the place, but at some point a player was going to be ok with not getting the max as long as it's in the single 100s, if it's in the right city. There's a few "right" cities. If they love you in LA, NYC, Chicago, or Miami then you don't need to max out every time. A $150 million is still a LOT of money over 4 years and the PR this generates for him with Knick fans isn't calculable.

They're going to add another clause to the CBA because it makes them look nuts though. The apron clauses were all about owners who'd spend too much, but now they'll add a clause for stars who are alright not getting the max because this is going to be a competitive advantage for the Knicks now.
