How critical is this for NYK?

The money that top guys are earning now are so ridiculous that these pay cuts are really not going to hurt as much as they did even 5-6 years ago at some point when you reach the 100+ million dollar tier its up to them
Yeah and right now he’s the face of NY sports so that endorsement money is probably coming in like crazy.:wow:

You are a complete idiot. Celtics made all these moves before the new luxury tax kicked in. If you honestly don’t see how this will hurt the Celtics going forward, idk what to tell you.

Nah. When the NBA salary cap goes up with the new TV deal and all of the Celtics players are already signed to their long extensions, alot of Celtics haters will even more angry when ironically Celtics keep their core while other teams will not be able to :manny:

Just heard that Jalen Brunson took this contract as a gamble that in 3 years, his 10 years of NBA service contract to kick in where he could re-up for $83 mill a year in 2028. And now until then it will give the Knicks cap flexibility to sign other players

If so, that's a smart contract after all :ehh:. Still a hell of a gamble though

One thing I will say...if you are an NFL player and you see MLB and NBA contracts and you aren't disgusted with yourselves and your union.....
NFL salary cap is over $100mil more than the NBA salary cap but you're comparing a sport with 53 man rosters to a sport with 15 man rosters
Has nothing to do with the union

reading this thread, I dont understand the extreme reactions on either side
this was a no brainer for the knicks, no rules were broken, he signed the biggest extension he could sign right now instead waiting to next offseason. He could've gotten paid more but it came with risks

when its all said and done he has made $250 million dollars as a Knick. He is was a 2nd round player, his dad was journeyman (who never had a guaranteed contract) and at one point he was willing to take 56 million to stay in Dallas. When the Knicks gave him his 1st 100 million dollar deal alot ppl thought they were crazy. Now the same ppl are calling him crazy for taking a $140 million dollar contract.

btw his dad got a raise and makes $12 million now as an assistant coach
he playing with his boys
he the face of the franchise and arguably the biggest star in NY not named Aaron Judge
and the contract makes it easier to keep what looks like a potenitial solid core together, allows them to avoid the 2nd apron and add ancillary picks going forward

its a win all around except for ppl not called Jalen Brunson counting the money he could've had

but i am a biased long-suffering Knicks fan
