How critical is this for NYK?

He should have never signed it. They will use his contract against the next guys up for extensions.

He knows it's a $300+ million contract waiting for him in 4-5 yrs :yeshrug:
NBA money is so big now maybe we start seeing guys give "discounts" cause it's probably not a huge difference in earning $600 million vs $700 million before 40

He could easily have an Isiah Thomas trajectory. Should've took as much money as he could :hubie:
Isaiah Thomas only made 34 million in his career and never had a big contract. Jalen Brunson has already signed two 100 plus million dollar contracts (104 and 156) he’s fine.

He went for the safety aint mad at it...Dude is a second round pick who is playing way above any expectation....dont wanna get injured and end up like IT and that binks truck you're hoping for ends up making a u turn.
its crazy cuz people are talking like he would be guaranteed that bigger contract in a year.

injuries happen, fall offs happen. hes not a physical specimen like Lebron. hes a second rounder who blew expectations away at his second team.

im happy hes signed obviously, i am elated but this idea that the 5 year max will be there "next year" is silly. this is a slam dunk 150 for a few years and if hes still a great player he will get more with a higher salary cap.

win-win for him and the knicks.

some times both teams can win a trade. this contract is a win for him and the knicks.

He’ll make it up
He'll make that money back in under the table deals with Rose and his father endorsements.

Respectfully, these are dumb takes

He’s not choosing between 2 different locations, so there is comparative gain to calculate. So if your argument is he’ll make up money in ‘endorsements’, he woulda got those same endorsements with his max deal….. Not to mention the ‘endorsements’ angle for big cities is outdated af. It’s not 1995 you don’t have to be in NY to maximize your celebrity :mjlol: That money gone

What is there to investigate?
This was the maximum extension they could offer him this offseason
Obviously there's benefits for the Knicks but him turning it down would also be a risk
What if Brunson tears his ACL in game 1 next year and is never the same player again? He would never get paid. We've seen players turn down extensions for bigger money down the line and it blew up in their faces
Did any of those players have blatant conflict of interest with their respective teams when they turned down those offers?

Those conflict of interest in that organization alone with Brunson should warrant the league investigating that deal.

All things considered...to be able to live the dream to play with all your best friends and be the star of NY and have enough money to keep multiple future generations in luxury... I'd probably do the same thing as Brunson
People gotta keep in mind, everything about breh screamed complementary/really good rotation piece up until like 2 years ago. He played for a college coach that had both 5 stars and scrubs buy into smaller roles. And his dad was a role guy

This probably has never been a big limelight, high ego guy, as far as NBA superstars go at least
