90s was too fukking good. Kept that streak of the hot shyt from the 70s and 80s going.

So true. I feel like the whole house/rave movement of the 90s was like a retro revival of the disco movement of the 70s. Cause trends are cyclical every 20 years.

Hip-hop was a great signifier of that cultural appropriation from those decades especially with sampling.

I'd even say the early part of 2000s put up a good fight.

I agree...but I'd say by 2003/2004 that whole freespirited vibe of the 90s was all but over.

Man early 2000s still had us high off the 90s shyt felt like it was about to be the GOAT decade.

I know a lot of us were scared as shyt of y2k and was happy to see it be just media hooplah.

Then the fukkery started :beli:

Dot com bubble :francis:
Gore/bush election :beli:
9/11 :snoop:
Operation Iraqi freedom:why:
Katrina :wow:
Kobe rape case :sadcam:
iPhone annouced (ushered in the antisocial-social era) :ohhh:
Housing market crash :damn:
The great recession :mjcry:
Mj died :merchant:

It's just crazy to think about in retrospect how the 90s were literally the end of the 20th century. Considering how the beginning of the 20th century began like it's amazing that society was able to get to that point.

I think of everything we have no technology wise, cultural wise, etc...and it really does make that era look kind of simple...and almost primitive. Which is why I love looking back on old photos, movies, tv, music and seeing it from the perspective I have now.

The 00s really did suck bad.

But then, Obama got elected and shyt...y'all remember how happy people were when he got elected? He had people crying their eyes out...had people in NYC dancing in the street stopping traffice...had white people all depressed and besides themselves...it really did think like things we're changing for the better...and here we are and this decade is terrible.

But man, when Michael Jackson died, a piece of my childhood died with it. If you were an 80s baby/90s kid or earlier, you understand the cultural significance that man had. He made us all want to learn how to moonwalk, had us staying up past bedtime to watch his video premieres...which was like an event in itself...

Those were the days...all we got is memories now.

And it's weird, up until 03, shyt was still kinda sweet and felt like a bigger/better version of the 90s.

Yea 9/11 had happened but we weren't quite at war yet. But when we went to war shyt went down a hell hole.

I still remember moms having to explain to me how we would have to cut back cuz her govt job cut her over time.

Everybody became super critical. Gas started to rise around 05/06 and you actually had to worry about it as a utility now.

All I remember from the time period is just war and speculation. Mainstream rap bubble finally burst too. Every rapper that was suppose to carry the torch got delayed like hell or didn't live up (Saigon, papoose, 50, game, TI, Lupe, juelz, cam) to the hype. Labels scrambled like hell to replicate the current hot trend.

Just goes to show you how some stuff that happened in the 90s was just a blessing. Cause we still had desert storm and the world trade threats back in early 90s but we were lucky to have the Internet boom too.

As far as it's concerned, ringtone rap and snap muzik was the end of rap/hip-hop. from 2005-2008 every song was terrible, had a dumb chorus, had a dance to go with it, It was like a nightmare...like how could rap get that bad?

Back in Florida
Totally man. I grew up raving in Florida, Florida breaks was the main genre, which is some James brown funky break beats. Also house was huge 4 on the floor, same funky shyt. It was our generations way of paying homage, and biting really.

I hate that shyt. Every single song has some stupid dance with it and almost all of them are awful. At that point it's no longer about making good music. The turning point I think was very easy to see too.

As much as people complain about to day it's far better than what I remember. Although the bar has been lowered somewhat, There's a semblance of balance and order that the mid 00s missed greatly.

I think it helps that a lot of the artists today are paying homage to the 90s and incorporating some of the sounds and artists into it. Much like the 90s artist did with 80/70s music.

Social Media has made everyone a degenerate attention whore. Our youth is fukked.
It's made the younger generation really narcisstic, egotistical, and arrogant too. Like some of these kids really got an "i know it all" mentality and scorn older people for being old.

I mean, in my day we looked up to the older generations, but this generation looks down on them.

Yeah they are just mindless drones looking for their next like. No shame and no brain, the Internet has them in its web. Pun intended.
