A lot of people in this country would be well served reading Society of the Spectacle by Guy Debord. Does a great job of explaining what we’re currently experiencing and it was written back in the 60s.

Yea, people aren't lying when they say they aren't familiar with a popular artists' music. Today you can listen to more music than anybody and still almost never hear a Taylor Swift song. But growing up in the 90's/00s I can still recite some Avril Lavigne lyrics lol

Can I just be honest and say that since the inception of media in this country, specially the news, has been lying and keeping secrets from us, people wouldn't want alternative information if the people who were supposed to be experts and fact checkers weren't withholding so much
Just on the music point. Who chooses what’s to be played on the radio. I remember there would be an hour of requests but other than that…

Maybe back in the day DJ’s had some control and knew what the city wants. Power, Wild and whatever other “urban” radios stations consolidated and gave us what we listen to.

Whenever I turn on the radio now, Glorilla, Drake and Future are playing. Much of it is trash. Who asked for it.

The consolidation of social media and the culling of any social media that isn't American owned is clearly a play at getting back
to some form of monoculture.

Information control.
Media Control.
Propaganda control.

I agree, part of the reason I hate modern Hip Hop. There's way to many rappers out and I can't keep up with them all. I miss the 106 & Park days where that show would give you a general idea of what the hottest Hip Hop/R&B acts are at any given time.

I will say there was TV Shows everyone watched well into the 2010s..... Game of Thrones is probably the most popular show in American history, I never seen a show have the buzz like that one did in my 33 years on this earth. Peak Walking Dead wasn't far behind (popularity wise) and was beating SNF head to head in the ratings at one point and TWD was on CABLE :wow: For those of you who watch sports, you know that the NFL dominates American TV ratings with a iron fist and its impressive AF when an TV show or non NFL sporting event can beat the NFL in ratings.

Once everyone and their mother decided to get a streaming service, that killed the golden age of TV :francis: There is dope shows on Paramount+, Peacock, etc that get overlooked because most ppl are not subscribed to those streaming services.

Gun men used to threaten producers back in the day to make sure certain artists got more airtime.
