Many people said it already in this thread....but culture (art, music, fashion) just feels so forced, formulaic, mainstreamed, and unauthentic.I dont understand how the 90s could be so dope and what followed after that just went more and more downhill. If someone told me in the 90s that technology would have advanced to the level it has now, I would have said send me to that era right now, but its just not what it should be.
I just. dont. get it.
I mean everything that people wished for in the 90s has come true in terms of development of technology, but nothing has that same feel anymore. Technology has advanced but everything just feels ..... numb
music isnt the same because you can get any song, any album at a click of a finger
relationships get tiresome because your in contact with your partner 24/7
we have the internet that can literally give you ANY PIECE OF KNOWLEDGE you require at a click of a finger, yet people are just obsessed with twerking, fights, funny videos and just dumb shyt in general
everything has just become so, so numb
Its true, everything does feel forcedMany people said it already in this thread....but culture (art, music, fashion) just feels so forced, formulaic, mainstreamed, and unauthentic.
The real signifier was when MTV stopped playing music videos and started focusing on boy bands like N'Sync, 98 Degrees, Backstreet Boys, and pop stars like Mandy Moore, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears. That's when I knew that it was over.

I don't listen to much of hip hop. Most of what I hear is about guns drugs gangs and money. The good stuff really has some personal inspiration or a form of social commentary. Maybe I'm wrong since I'm not big on the scene, but I feel like anyone who wants a record deal these days gets one, and the people are strictly in it for the money. It sounds like wu tang lived simply for the music itself. Makes a much better product and maybe I've got rose tinted glasses about the decade but it seemed like there was more of that then.If youve ever read the RZAs book, The Tao of Wu, you will see how Wu Tang had put their whole LIVES into their craft, these dudes were from all over NY and used to meet up every week just to discuss knowledge they have picked up ... RZA had pupils that he used to teach about spirituality and all other crazy stuff .... these meeting they had eventually formed the GEMS they used to drop in their music covertly wrapped in slang that was local to only their blocks .... only years later until Rap Genius was formed did people really understand the majority of the lyrics...
Now you got people from all over the US trynna sound like whoever is hot at the moment and rapping about whatever everyone else is rapping about. research is limited to whatever you found on youtube, this is why everyone rapping right now is sounding like they from the south, theres just no authenticity and realness in whats put out anymore. just bandwaggoners
I mean this is pretty much it, anyone who wants a record deal just has to make the most dumb, mentally backwards shyt but as long as its done in the coolest fasion thatll get a following, thats good enough. Record lables have realised they dont need the most talented people to make money, they just need someone that can tap into the same negative vibration that everyone is tuned to and create a following with.I don't listen to much of hip hop.
