It's crazy to think that in our galaxy if there are aliens with good enough technology

by the time they see us, we won't even exist anymore. wonder what will replace the animals on earth 1 billion years from now :lupe:

That would imply that intelligent life to that specific degree of astronomy, exists far enough away to see our planet at that exact time.

Which is exponentially lower than intelligent life existing in our universe.

And by “see,” to them we could just appear as one of hundreds of millions of stars in our galaxy, if they even were in our galaxy.

Hell, we could be looking at them looking at us right now but would never know it because there’s no way we could see that far.

So highly unlikely to the point of being fiction.

nah, not really. everything we see in our observable universe is millions of years old. it isn't out of the realm of possibility that if they can receive images from earth, it would be millions to billions of years old; assuming light is the means of reflecting images :ehh:

Time doesn’t necessarily equate to intelligent life. I mean hell, give it 1.5-4.5 billion years from now and the Earth will be completely uninhabited by any lifeforms.

And that’s pretty much what I say because due to the way time works. In theory, we could be looking at intelligent life at the same time they are looking at us. However, we wouldn’t “see” each other because light doesn’t travel fast enough. But time at that point is irrelevant because time is defined relatively.

the nearest star is only 4.2x years (seeing distance) away.

"Proxima Centauri
is a small, low-mass star located 4.2465 light-years (1.3020 pc) away from the Sun in the southern constellation of Centaurus. Its Latin name means the 'nearest [star] of Centaurus'. It was discovered in 1915 by Robert Innes and is the nearest-known star to the Sun."

This thread is stupid. The Milky Way galaxy is 100,000 light years in diameter. An advanced civilization with a powerful enough telescope on the other end of the galaxy would see our world as it was 100,000 years ago. An advanced alien civilization would probably have to be at least 65 million years away to see dinosaurs on our planet. Sorry son I’m gonna have to fail you in the class.

I cant believe this had to be explained.

:snoop:

Not to mention, the size and mass of a telescope needed to see details on a planet 65 million light years away would be so great that it would literally cause it to collapse into a black hole.
