If a nikka got all those qualifications why the fukk I'm gonna want an "ENTRY" level anything unless it's management.

That's why I can't get mad at people that milk the system, commit fraud and all types of white collar fukkery. The game is rigged.

In 10 years, I swear ya'll might see me on an episode of American Greed:jawalrus:
Welcome to the college hustle. This is why I have a bachelor's degree in computers and install cable for a living. Ironically I make more installing cable than I would at some bs helpdesk job so its a catch 22. The money I make doing what I do living in this low cost area and being single with no kids allows me to have what I want within reason and not struggle at all.

There is good money in that no doubt for a single guy with no kids. There is a ceiling though, so it may not be a career unless you are willing to get into management (I am assuming you are working union).

No union I'm not a contractor I work directly for the cable company. I get a company truck that I drive home every night and cable with all the channels and 30m internet cost me $18 a month total with multi room DVR in 2 rooms.

It's a rough job some days but I save a ton on cable and I pay nothing in gas to and from work. It has some limited perks.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Good, the big 4 route is useless, it's never something you can call your own. You might as well work as a line cook.

I wouldn't call it totally useless. The training and points on the resume is good but I would be up in there competing with people 10 years younger than me. The come up takes too long and your growth overall is restricted . I'm still contemplating what I want to specialize in. I got a few years to think on it though.

Bruh, damn near every position has too many applicants.
BZZZT! Wrong! The jobs you're applying for have too many applicants. Most jobs in the IT/Engineering vertical don't.

Plus I am in a somewhat specialized field that is only hot in certain areas (NE and Cali) but I am looking to relocate in the SE

I look with a lot of terms... I will search positions and buzzwords. Finding the positions isn't the issue, the issue is using job search engine openings as a means of finding a job, even when I am overqualified, has generally been useless.
If you were really "overqualified" firms would be reaching out to you demanding your skills.

If you can't find a job with your current skillset it seems like you need to work on attaining new, more marketable skills.

If an employer needs a Ruby on Rails developer they're not going to DQ him because he knows C# too...

Both my parents were in the military, all my other fam ain't shyt.
I've always asked them for tips regarding job hunting n shyt like that, always got hit with the "idk nikka go get a job :manny: "

Been working under a union for the past 2 years and I gotta say, doing what the fukk you want when the fukk you want is :ahh:

I'm starting college soon but this thread seems to be another reason to go military.
No getting laid off, not paying for shyt, equal value in the civilian workforce :obama:

All while doing the same shyt you would be doing on the outside :gladbron:

As a Software Engineer with Java/Hibernate/Oracle/JSP/Spring/HTML and a bunch of other shyt in the DMV if my contract ends tomorrow I will be employed by the end of next week.

This is how I broke away from the phone company. I got my Oracle certification and no less than a week of putting it on my resume and posting it to Monster I was putting in my two weeks.

Truth. Nope if they dont have a position for you and see you may be a fit somewhere else in the company your resume will get forwarded to the recruiter dealing with that group OR the recruiter may try and place you in that position instead.

Damn youve been dropping heat in this thread. Are you the same "The NIgerian" that got banned for showing his nuts?

Sounds like you didn't have much of a network to work with.

You people need teaching... like a lifetimes worth.

How fukking stupid is that? You need a job to gain experience, but you need experience to get a job. You need money to go to school, but the purpose of school is to make money. Man life is a paradox. But as far as the declining job market someone was talking to me the other day and what he said was really profound. He said his boss took him outside one day after work, and pointed to this house on a hill. His boss then said, "Hey Rick. Do you see that big house up there all the way at the top of that hill? Someday, if you work extremely hard, follow all my orders, and show up every day on time, that house that you see up there will be all mine." You have to take the wheel sometimes.
