If you were really "overqualified" firms would be reaching out to you demanding your skills.
If you can't find a job with your current skillset it seems like you need to work on attaining new, more marketable skills.
If an employer needs a Ruby on Rails developer they're not going to DQ him because he knows C# too...
You smart dumb nikka I just laid it out for you. I get calls regularly for jobs in the Northeast and the West Coast. I got my last two jobs through recruiters who sought me out because of my resume (just as you pointed out earlier). The problem is not my skills or being able to find a job, if I was staying in this god forsaken city I would cake off. The problem is where I want to live does not have an abundance of jobs in my field. You do realize certain areas are friendlier/more involved in more industries, correct? The industry I am in is not big in the areas I want to live in.
